Alba Berlin loses Peavy long-term
Peavy - (Photo albaberlin.de)Just a couple of weeks before starting the Turkish Airlines Euroleague season, Alba Berlin was hit with the worst possible news as forward Nathan Peavy suffered a long-term knee injury in a preseason game on Sunday. Peavy (2.03 meters, 27 years old) joined Alba over the summer from another German team, Artland Dragons Quakenbrueck, for whom he averaged 13.8 points and 6.3 rebounds in 40 games last season. He was due to make his Euroleague debut on October 12. Peavy's multiple injuries - a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and a broken femur - occured when he fell during in a preseason game in Italy against Varese. Even the timing was cruel, as the injury came just 30 seconds before the end of a 74-73 defeat in which Peavy had scored 10 points and pulled 5 rebounds. Upon the team's return to the German capital on Monday, the team's worst fears were confirmed by doctors at the Berlin Trauma Center, who said that Peavy can be expected to miss the entire season. Alba's sports director, Mithat Demirel, said that the team would look for a replacement. "This news hits Nathan and us very hard shortly before the start of the season," Demirel said. "He was a central player to our concept this season."
