The tradition of combining fantastic basketball and the spread of goodwill at the start of Final Four weekend will continue in London when stars of the Turkish Airlines Euroleague join Special Olympics Great Britain athletes for a special event at The Scoop at More London on Thursday morning. With a host of athletes and dignitaries on hand, Euroleague Basketball will celebrate the launching of One Team’s partnership with Special Olympics.
The respective One Team Ambassadors from each of the participating Final Four teams – Victor Khyrapa of CSKA Moscow, Kyle Hines of Olympiacos Piraeus, Nikola Mirotic of Real Madrid and Xavi Rabaseda from FC Barcelona Regal – will all take part in basketball drills, answer questions, pose for photographs and sign autographs with the Special Olympics athletes. The event will be overseen by One Team head coach Mike Richardson, who will use One Team concepts and methodology to conduct the sessions.
The Scoop at More London, located adjacent to the Mayor of London’s offices, on the south bank of the Thames between London Bridge and Tower Bridge, offers a stunning view that will make the event even more memorable for all involved.
The on-going collaboration between Euroleague Basketball’s One Team program and its Proud Member, Special Olympics, was announced in 2012 at an event that brought together 15 Euroleague clubs to develop their One Team community programmes. This collaboration, which follows three successful years of working together, presents an excellent opportunity for One Team to learn from a leading activist around issues of integration whilst promoting the work of a like-minded organization that uses sport to have a significant social impact across the world.
