Perperoglou backs new One Team campaign in Jerusalem

Three-time EuroLeague champion Stratos Perperoglou has helped his new club, Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem, support its local community through its One Team activities which work with under-privileged children.

One Team is Euroleague Basketball’s social responsibility program, and 7DAYS EuroCup contestant Hapoel has been working hard to implement its activities for the new season.

Hapoel has already launched a program which was developed jointly with Bank Yahav, the club’s main sponsor, and is working with teenagers from poor families within the city’s Kiryt Menachem neighbourhood.

Special emphasis is placed on attracting teenagers of Ethiopian descent, aiming to maximize their commitment to the activities with the goal of establishing a basketball framework for these disadvantaged teenagers to learn key values such as personal responsibility and self-discipline.

In his role as one of Hapoel’s One Team Ambassadors, along with Israeli international guard Bar Timor, Perperoglou showed his personal backing for the program by attending a weekly practice session with the teenagers earlier this month. The veteran forward had the honor of giving the participants their first equipment for this year: One Team t-shirts, bottles and a sport bag. He then joined the session with the excited youngsters, particularly spending time on giving tips to improve shooting technique.

There was also a break from the physical work as Perperoglou delivered an educational talk, telling the teenagers about the sacrifices he made in order to become a professional, emphasising the importance of working hard to achieve your dreams.

The session finished with the Greek star signing autographs and inviting the participants to attend the One Team Games next week, when Hapoel will host Grissin Bon Reggio Emilia during the annual continent-wide celebration of One Team’s achievements.

Perperoglou was delighted to offer his support, saying: “It was great to meet the One Team participants and I was really impressed by their enthusiasm and excitement to play basketball.

“This is just the start of their journey, and I’m sure that over the next few months this project will make a significant difference to their lives, putting them on the right path to enjoy a brighter future.”

One Team, supported by Turkish Airlines as the One Team Founding Patron and with the collaboration of Special Olympics as Proud Partner, uses basketball to achieve meaningful social impact in our communities across Europe and is supported by every club in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and 7DAYS EuroCup.

Since its founding in 2012, the One Team program has already helped more than 14,000 participants through its various team-focussed projects.
