Toto Forray of Dolomiti Energia Trento has certainly been a busy man in the last couple of weeks.
As well as scoring a career-high 24 points in his team's 7DAYS EuroCup clash with Buducnost VOLI Podgorica, the veteran guard has taken time out of his schedule to support his club's efforts with One Team, Euroleague Basketball's social responsibility program.
The Italian club has created an inclusion project, named 'One Team, One Staff', for a variety of groups in Trentino, which makes the participants key players in different ways, taking an active role with all the work promoted by the club. The diverse group of participants includes boys from the Rosmini and Galilei High Schools, people going through addiction recovery programs at the Trentino Solidarity Center, asylum seekers supported by local groups ATAS and Centro Astalli, and children with disabilities attending programs developed by ANFFASS.
Forray is Trento's One Team Ambassador and has been a big supporter of the club's activities, attending the sixth session of this season's program on Friday 19 January at the city's Rosmini High School.
Under the guidance of the club's One Team Coach, Nenad Jakovljievic, and of Manager Massimo Komatz, the participants enjoyed a number of exercises that allowed basketball to become the tool to connect people who speak different languages – but who all share the common language of basketball.
Forray is taking his ongoing role with One Team seriously, saying: "Being appointed ambassador of an important project like One Team is certainly a huge pleasure because of what this initiative represents at an international level.
"Two years ago I was really excited to become part of a project that allowed me to be close to young people with so many different backgrounds for whom basketball represented a point of reference and an inspiring model, as it was for me when I was young.
"I can feel the same positive climate in this new project. I can see that also in this case basketball is a powerful way of making different people bond together, and it will be able to bring the best out of all the participants."
A few days after that session the group met again at the Palatrento arena to watch the club's 7DAYS EuroCup game against Buducnost, where they saw Forray lead his team's efforts with 24 points – the highest tally of any EuroCup player that week – in a thrilling game which went to double overtime before the visitors claimed a dramatic 105-106 victory.
One Team, supported by Turkish Airlines as the One Team Founding Patron and with the collaboration of Special Olympics as Proud Partner, uses basketball to achieve meaningful social impact in our communities across Europe and is supported by every club in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and 7DAYS EuroCup.
Since its founding in 2012, the One Team program has already helped more than 14,000 participants through its various team-focused projects.
