Anadolu Efes Istanbul has teamed up with Special Olympics to further the personal development of special athletes with a series of sessions over the next eight weeks.
The project is part of One Team, Euroleague Basketball's social responsibility program. Efes was nominated for the One Team Awards at the end of last season and is now ready to carry out another great program of activities, using the power of basketball to transform lives.
The sessions will provide training to 16 special athletes who practice sports within Special Olympics Turkey, focusing on key life and sporting skills such as communication, teamwork and healthy personal habits.
The first activity of the project took place last Saturday, which was perfectly timed to coincide with the launch of the Special Olympics European Basketball Week.
And there was a special surprise for the 16 participants with the arrival of Efes first team player Sertac Sanli, who has taken on the role of the club's One Team Ambassador for the coming campaign.
Sanli led the coaching drills for the session, and afterwards he said: "It is a great honor for me to have the chance to be a part of this inspiring project. I was very happy to spend time with the special athletes and I am sure this partnership with Special Olympics will be a huge success."
The sessions are carried out at Aydin Ors Sports Center, which is located in the Beylikduzu district of Istanbul and named after the legendary coach of Anadolu Efes. The participants will also be invited to an upcoming Efes home game in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague.
In addition to One Team coaches from Efes, expert coaches from Special Olympics Turkey will lead the project, which is supported by the Turkish Sports Writers' Association and the Beylikduzu Municipality.
One Team, supported by Turkish Airlines as the One Team Founding Patron and with the collaboration of Special Olympics as Proud Partner, uses basketball to achieve meaningful social impact in our communities across Europe and is supported by every club in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and 7DAYS EuroCup.
Since its founding in 2012, the One Team program has already helped more than 16,000 participants through its various team-focused projects.
