Montepaschi Siena is once again the Italian League champion! Montepaschi won its second Italian League title by sweeping the best-of-five finals against VidiVici Bologna. Montepaschi capped an incredible domestic season by topping VidiVici 90-82 in Siena in game 3 on Sunday. Terrell McIntyre paced the winners with 22 points on 4-of-6 triples and 8-of-9 free throws. Joseph Forte added 21 points, Rimantas Kaukenas had 18, including a critical four-point play down the stretch, while Romain Sato posted a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds for the new Italian League champion. Andrea Crosariol led Virtus with 21 points on 9-of-10 two-pointers. Guilherme Giovannoni added 13, Vlado Ilievski 11 and Dusan Vukcevic 10. Montepaschi won its first league title in 2004 and is now back atop in a historical season that comes with a ticket for the 2007-08 Euroleague. MORE |

2006-07 ITALIAN LEAGUE PREVIEW
|
| The Italian League has seen three different champions in as many seasons, showing it is one of the most exciting, competitive championships in Europe, as well as one of the best, too. Reigning champs Benetton Treviso landed as many as six new players - Richie Frahm, Spencer Nelson, Terrell Lyday, Nick George, Joey Beard and Angelo Gigli - while keeping Marcus Goree, Marco Mordente, Nikos Zisis or Matteo Soragna. Climamio Bologna moved well in the off-season market and out together a deep, talented roster in which the team managed to keep Marco Belinelli and Stefano Mancinelli while adding David Bluthental, Tyus Edney, Preston Shumpert, James Thomas, Steffen Hamann or Kristaps Janicenoks, among others. Lottomatica Roma kept superstars Dejan Bodiroga and David Hawkins, as well as Vlado Ilievski, Alex Righetti or Alessandro Tonolli. Jerome Moiso and Loukas Mavrokefalidis will team up in a powerful frontcourt. Eldo Napoli shocked everyone last season and hopes to confirm its power by keeping a core of players featuring Ansu Sesay, Michel Morandais, Valerio Spinelli, Mason Rocca, Jay Larranaga or Alessandro Cittadini, as well as bringing in Matteo Malaventura, Tierre Brown or Jeff Trepagnier, back in Napoli after a season in Ulker. Montepaschi Siena hopes to improve last year's perfomance with Terrell McIntyre, Joseph Forte, Rimantas Kaukenas, Vladimir Boisa or Romain Sato. Lonny Baxter will join the team in December. Armani Jeans Milano landed Travis Watson, Kiwane Garris, Nate Green and Marko Tusel, as well as keeping Massimo Bulleri, Joseph Blair and Dante Calabria to become a top contender. Snaidero Udine, with Andrew Wisniewski, Kristaps Valters and Damon Williams, VidiVici Bologna, which landed Travis Best, Bennett Davison and Brett Blizzard, or Bipop-Carire Reggio Emilia, featuring Mike Penberthy, Cory Violette and Ricky Minard, should fight for a playoff spot. |
