Austrian League playoffs, semifinals, Game 1: May 13, 2007 |
Swans Gmunden needed and extra session to beat WBC Kraftwerk Wels 89-85 in the opening game of the best-of-five Austrian League semifinals, while surprising Macabido Gunners Oberwart stole the home-court advantage in the other series by topping Raiffeisen Panthers Furstenfel 85-95 on the road in Game 1. At Gmunden, the hosts took a 22-13 margin at the end of the first quarter, but the guests rallied back after the halftime break make it 57-54 after 30 minutes. Regulation time ended tied at 72-72, but in overtime, Deteri Mayes rose to the occasion and secured the Swans' victory. Mayes finished with 32 points and Ian Boylan added 17 for the winners, while Elias Anderson had 23 for Wels. Meanwhile, the Gunners, who were the last team to reach the playoffs after finishing Phase II of the Austrian season in sixth place with an 18-18 record, outran the Panthers 18-29 during the third quarter to take control of Game 1. Armond Williams had 27 points, Jason Johnson 23 and Adam Boone 20 for Oberwart, while Jason Dietrick posted 27 for the hosts.
