Latvian League Finals, Game 3: May 14, 2007
Helmanis - Ventspils Perennial Latvian champion Ventspils is still alive and kicking after crushing ASK Riga 90-64 in Game 3 of the best-of-seven finals series on Monday. Riga stunned Ventspils on the road in Game 1 and then won the second game at home for a shocking 2-0 series lead, before falling big in Game 3. Uvis Helmanis led the way for Ventspils with 23 points, while Justin Love added 14 and Akselis Vairogs 9. Sandis Valters led Riga with 17 points and Curtis Millage posted 16. Ventspils started on fire by taking a 24-10 margin after 8 minutes on a Kaspars Cipruss jumper, but Sandis Buskevics beat the buzzer to cut the cushion to 26-17 at the end of the first quarter. The hosts maintained a safe margin during the second quarter to stay in front at halftime, 46-33. ASK climbed within 57-50 late in the third quarter, but Justin Love capped a 9-0 run for Ventspils to make it 66-50 with a minute left in the period, which ended 70-55. In the final quarter, the hosts raised the difference to 30 points with 3 minutes left, before Martynas Andrukaitis fixed the final score on 90-64.
