Greek League playoffs, quarterfinals, Game 2: Μay 15, 2007
Ramunas Siskauskas - Panathinaikos Panathinaikos joined Aris TT Bank and Panionios in the Greek-League semifinals by sweeping Maroussi, but Olympiacos Piraeus was surprised on the road by PAOK Thessaloniki and will need a deciding Game 3 to determine who takes the last spot in the semis. Aris and Panionios swept aside Olympia Larisas and Panellinios, respectively, already on Saturday. Panathinaikos will now face Panionios in the semis, while Aris awaits the winner of the Olympiacos-PAOK series. The new Euroleague champion, Panathinaikos, won 70-73 on the road to take another step on the road to what the club hopes will be its first triple crown. The game was close throughout, with Renaldas Seibutis starting strong to give the hosts an early 16-10 lead, but Nikos Hatzvirettas and Dejan Tomasevic coming up big in the second period to put the Greens up 30-34 at halftime. The score was knotted at 51-51 after 30 minutes, but Fragiskos Alvertis started and ended an 11-0 run with three-pointers as Panathinaikos pulled away in the fourth. Still Seibutis had the hot hand and tied the game at 66-66 with 1:50 remaining, but Ramunas Siskauskas answered right back and then he and Sani Becirovic made their free throws when it counted as Panathinaikos held on for the win. Siskauskas led the way with 12 points, Alvertis and Dimitris Diamantidis added 11 each and Tomasevic had 10. Seibutis paced Maroussi with 22. In Thessaloniki, with former PAOK star Peja Stojakovic looking on, the home team played determined basketball and held on for an 84-80 win. Giannis Kalambokis paced PAOK to a 26-24 lead at the end of the first period, but Alex Acker and Giannis Bourousis helped the Reds tie the game at 47-47 at halftime. Kalambokis was joined by C.J. Watson and Vlado Scepanovic to go ahead 61-53 midway through the fourth, but Scoonie Penn and Ryan Stack helped the visitors tie it again at 68-68 with 10 minutes to go. The red-hot Kalambokis put PAOK up by 6 only to see Penn lead Olympiacos on a 0-8 spurt to get ahead. But with the game on the line Kalambokis had the final answer as PAOK evened the series. Kalambokis finished with 26 points, while Lazaros Agadakos and Sotiris Manolopoulos added 11 each. Stack paced Olympiacos with 13 points, Penn, Bourousis and Henry Domercant added 12 each and Acker added 11. Game 3 is set for Thursday in Piraeus.
