Italian League Quarterfinals, Game 2: May 19-20, 2007
Dejan Bodiroga Lotomattica Roma Lottomatica Roma, Montepaschi Siena and Armani Jeans Milano are just one win away from making it to the Italian League semifinals, as all three series have a 2-0 lead in their respective quarterfinal series and will host Game 3 on Tuesday. Lottomatica Roma topped Eldo Napoli 64-68 in Game 2 on Sunday. Dejan Bodiroga led the winners with 22 points, Mire Chatman added 12 while Michel Morandais had 23 points to lead Eldo. Montepaschi Siena overcame a 12-point halftime deficit by downing Tisettanta Cantu 82-97 in Game 2 on Saturday. Joseph Forte paced the winners with 23 points while Rimantas Kaukenas added 16. Armani Jeans Milano also rallied from a halftime deficit to beat archrivals Whirlpool Varese 69-77 in Game 2 also on Saturday. Travis Watson led the winners with a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds. Massimo Bulleri added 16 while Nate Green had 15 for Milano. Meanwhile, VidiVici Bologna had 7 players with 8 points on more to thrash Angelico Biella 69-94 in Game 2 and tie the series at 1-1. Fabio Di Bella led Virtus with 14 points.

Lottomatica Roma got a 2-0 lead in its quarterfinal series by topping Eldo Napoli 64-68 in Game 2 on Sunday. Bodiroga led the winners with 22 points, Chatman added 12 while David Hawkins had 10 for Roma. Morandais had 23 points for Eldo, Ansu Sesay added 12 and Tyrone Ellis 10. Hawkins had 8 points in the opening quarter, in which a three-pointer by Chatman and a dunk by Erazem Lorbek gave Roma a 19-20 edge after 10 minutes. Bodiroga shined in the second quarter, but a layup by Larry O'Bannon brought Eldo within 28-30 at halftime. The game stayed close in the second half, as a three-pointer by Alessandro Tonolli tied it at 55-55 with 4 minutes to go. Back-to-back triples by Tonolli and Chatman put Roma ahead for good, 59-64. Eldo got within 64-66 but Bodiroga sealed the outcome down the stretch. VidiVici bounced back from its inital quarterfinals loss by thrashing Angelico Biella 69-94 on the road in Game 2 on Sunday. Di Bella paced the winners with 14 points while Guilherme Giovannoni and Christian Drejer each added 11 for VidiVici. Erik Daniels had 17 points for Biella. Drejer and Andreas Glyniadakis led a 2-16 run that allowed the guests to get a 21-27 lead after 10 minutes. VidiVici opened the second quarter with a 0-11 run, while a triple by Dusan Vukcevic gave the guests a 16-point halftime lead, 34-50. Nothing changed in the second half, as VidiVici kept a safe margin all the way until the final buzzer.

Montepaschi Siena is just one win away from advancing to the semifinals by downing Tisettanta Cantu 82-97 in Game 2 on Saturday. Forte paced the winners with 23 points. Kaukenas added 16, Lonny Baxter and Romain Sato each ahd 15 while Terrell McIntyre got 12 for Montepaschi. Nicolas Mazzarino had 18 points for Cantu, that led 52-40 at halftime. Sato, McIntyre and Shaun Stonerook fueled a 4-15 run that brought Montepaschi back into the game. Another 3-24 run in which Kaukenas had 9 points broke the game open, 65-81, and allowed the guests to get a 2-0 lead in the series. Armani Jeans Milano also rallied from a halftime deficit to beat archrivals Whirlpool Varese 69-77 in Game 2 also on Saturday. Watson led the winners with a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds. Bulleri added 16 while Green had 15 for Milano. Keith Carter had 23 points for Cantu, that led 45-38 at halftime. Watson, Sven Schultze and Bulleri got Milano within 52-51 after 30 minutes. Green had 6 quick points early in the final period to put Milano ahead for good, and then sealed the outcome with a three-pointer that broke the game, 61-69, in the final 2 minutes.
