German League playoffs, Quarterfinals, Game 2: May 24, 2007 |
Artland Dragons beat regular-season champion Alba Berlin 98-84 on Thursday to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the teams best-of-five quarterfinals series. Artland is joined by EnBW Ludwigsburg as being just one game away from the semifinals, while Eisbaren Bremerhaven and Brose Baskets Bamberg won their respective Game 2s to knot their series at 1-1. Berlin started strong behind Sharrod Ford and held a 24-36 lead after 10 minutes, but the Dragons stormed back to make it 56-55 at halftime. The hosts then held Berlin to 13 points and 16 points in the remaining two quarters to take the crucial victory. The hosts outrebounded Berlin 37-22 and dished 22 assists to Berlin's 9. Filiberto Rivera paced Artland with 22 points on 6-of-7 shooting and 13 assists, while Adam Hess added 15. Julius Jenkins led Alba with 22, Ford finished with 16, Demond Greene 14 and Will Avery 10. Brose Baskets Bamberg used an 11-26 third quarter to climb back from a 38-28 halftime deficit on the way to a 70-73 victory over Telekom Baskets Bonn. Steffen Hamann scored 21 points and Casey Jacobsen 19 to lead Bamberg, while Chris Ensminger posted 14 points and 12 rebounds and Darren Fenn added 11 points. Jason Gardner scored 22 and Jason Conley 14 for Bonn. Bremerhaven topped RheinEnergie Cologne 79-88 thanks to Adam Chubb, who shined with 25 points and 9 rebounds. RheinEnergie led 64-61 heading into the fourth quarter, but saw Bremerhaven dominate the last 10 minutes 15-27 to score the series-tying win. Nick Jacobson added 22 points for the winners. Immanuel McElroy led RheinEnergie with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists, Aleksandar Nadjfeji added 14, Marcin Gortat 12 and Devin Green and Mladjen Sljivancanin had 11 each. In the night's other game, Jerry Green scored 17 and Miljan Goljovic 16 as Ludwigsburg took a 75-78 decision from Bayer Giants Leverkusen.
