German League Quarterfinals, Game 3: May 27, 2007 |
The Artland Dragons sealed one of the biggest upsets ever seen in the German League by downing regular season winners Alba Berlin 71-93 to sweep their best-of-five quarterfinal series on Sunday. The Dragons advanced to the semifinals in shocking fashion by thrashing Alba 71-93 in front of 8,861 fans in Game 3 in Berlin to win the series 0-3. Lamont McIntosh paced the winners with 19 points. Filiberto Rivera added 16 while Adam Hess had 13 for the Dragons. Chris Owens had 16 points for Alba, Julius Jenkins added 13 while Will Avery and Sharrod Ford each got 11 for the hosts. The Dragons led 35-41 at halftime, broke the game open, 47-63, after 30 minutes and sealed their ticket to the next round. Brose Baskets took a 2-1 lead in its quarterfinals series by downing Telekom Baskets Bonn 76-59 in Bamberg also on Sunday. Darren F enn led the way for Brose Baskets with 18 points. Steffen Hamann added 17, Chris Ensminger posted a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds while Casey Jacobsen got 13 for the winners, that broke the game early in the final period and cruised to an important win. Eisbaren Bremerhaven also leads its quarterfinals series 2-1 by edging defending champion RheinEnergie 88-80 at home in Game 3 on Sunday. Adam Chubb led Bremenhaven with 18 points, Charles Wallace added 15 while Zygimantas Jonusas had 13 for the winners. Immanuel McElroy led 6 RheinEnergie players in double digits with 19 points while Demond Mallet added 15. Bremenhaven led 66-51 after 30 minutes and RheinEnergie could not rally in the fourth quarter. Last but not least, Bayer Giants Leverkusen stayed alive in the competition by topping EnBW Ludwigsburg 78-86 behind 18 points and 11 rebounds from Jared Newson.
