Serbian League Semifinals, Game 1: June 9, 2007 |
It was a round of surprises in the Serbian League playoff opener, as both Crvena Zvezda and Partizan registered respective road wins and now have the chance to advance to the final by winning their respective games at Pionir Arena. Partizan took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three semifinal series by edging FMP 77-81 in Zeleznik on Friday. Vonteego Cummings led the winners with 18 points while Kosta Perovic and Vladimir Micov each added 10 for Partizan. Milos Teodosic had 18 points for FMP, Zoran Erceg added 15, Predrag Samardziski 14 and Bojan Krstovic 12. FMP led 43-41 at halftime and even when Partizan got a 54-62 lead, a 9-0 lrun put FMP back ahead, 63-62, after 30 minutes. The game turned into a real thriller when FMP got within 76-77 with 20 seconds to go. Cummings stepped up for Partizan, while Teodosic hit 1 of 2 free throws for a 77-79 FMP deficit. Perovic allowed Zvezda to seal the outcome down the stretch. Meanwhile, Zvezda also had to battle hard to beat Hemofarm 72-74 in Vrsac in Game 1 on a miracle game-winning tip-in by Pero Antic. Milan Gurovic paced the winners with 28 points, Igor Milosevic added 14 and Vuk Radivojevic 11. Nebojsa Joksimovic had 16 points for Hemofarm, Vanja Plisnic added 13 and Milos Borisov 10. Hemofarm led 54-47 late in the third quarter. Gurovic brought his team back into the game while Hemofarm committed a turnover in its final possession, tied at 72-72. Tadija Dragicevic took a desperation three-point shot that did not fall in but Antic managed to tip in it at the buzzer.
