Serbian League Finals, Game 3: June 22, 2007 |
The Serbian League finals continue after Crvena Zvezda got in the win column with a solid 77-91 road win over Partizan on Friday in Game 3 of their best-of-five series. C. Zvezda avoided getting swept, but Partizan still enjoys a 2-1 lead going into Game 4 on Sunday. A high scoring pace early in Game 3 turned out to favor C. Zvezda, which scored more than 20 points in each quarter and enjoyed a 15-point difference over the second and third. Three players combined to score 69 points for the winners: Vuk Radivojevic with 29, Milano Gurovic with 27 and Tadija Dragicevic with 13. Better free throw and three-point shooting, a total difference of 28 points, made the difference for C. Zvezda. Uros Tripkovic paced Partizan with 15 points, while Predrag Drobnjak had 14 and Vonteego Cummings 13.
Despite missing suspended Pero Antic and injuried Steven Markovic, C. Zvezda opened fire right away, with a pair of triples by Gurovic giving the guests a 6-11 lead. Partizan took time to jell as the C. Zvezda advantage rose to 12-20. From there, the hosts Partizan managed to cut the difference to 23-25 at the end of first period as Drobnjak scored 6 straight points. Novica Velickovic and Tripkovic gave Partizan a brief 27-25 lead in minute 11 to finish a 10-0 run, but C. Zvezda was ready to take over for good now. Gurovic and Radivojevic answered with a three-pointer each to retake the lead at 35-43 . The advantage grew to double digits at 36-49 as C. Zvezda kept roaring for what turned out to be a 3-17 run to end the half. Gurovic already had 19 points and Radivojevic 17. Whe C. Zvezda added a 0-5 run to open the second half, the lead was at 36-54 lead and its defense was making sure already of the victory. The difference hit a high of 21 points, 42-63, in minute 27 and the guests led 52-69 after three quarters. Dragicevic triple early in the fourth widened the gap to more than 20 points again, and C. Zvezda spent the rest of the final quarter patiently scoring from the line to preserve the victory. Game 4 is on Sunday, hosted by C. Zvezda.
