German League Finals, Game 3: June 23, 2007
Steffen Hamann - Brose Baskets Brose Baskets Bamberg moved within one game of winning the German League title with a hard-fought 62-59 victory over Artland Dragons in Game 2 of their best-of-five series at a sold-out JAKO Arena Saturday night. Casey Jacobsen, who led the way with 15 points and 6 assists, iced the game for Brose Baskets with a pair of crucial free throws with 5 seconds to go. Bamberg became the first team in the series to win at home. It now leads the series 2-1 and can clinch its second title and with it a spot in next season's Euroleague with victory in Game 4 on Tuesday. After the first 10 minutes ended with the score knotted at 14-14, the hosts heated up in the second quarter to take a 35-27 lead at halftime. The Dragons closed to within 51-47 after three periods, but Bamberg prevailed despite being outscored 11-12 in a defensive fourth quarter. Steffen Hamann played a solid all-around game at point guard for coach Dirk Bauermann's side, finishing with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists, while K'Zell Wesson had 8 points and 10 rebounds. Vincent Yarbrough was a factor on the defensive end with 4 blocked shots. Meanwhile Chad Prewitt paced Artland with 15 and Lamont McIntosh added 10. Free-throw shooting was a major role in the outcome, as the visitors went 14-for-23 (60.9%), missing too many important opportunities.
