Baltic League, Game 2: October 3-8, 2006
JANKUNAS Only four teams - Zalgiris, Lacplesa Alus, ASK Riga and Ventspils - stay unbeaten in the Baltic League after 2 weeks of action. Zalgiris improved to 2-0 by thrashing Siauliai 69-87 on the road on Tuesday behind 21 points from Hanno Mottola. Marko Popovic added 17 points while Paulius Jankunas had 12 for Zalgiris, which led 33-57 at halftime and never had troubles to stay ahead in the second half. ASK Riga provided the biggest surprise in the Baltic League so far by edging defending champion Lietuvos Rytas 78-77 at home. Curtis Millage was the game hero by firing in the game-winning jumper at the buzzer. He had 24 points while Steponas Babrauskas had 27 for the winners. Titus Ivory and Tomas Delininkaitis each had 13 points for Rytas, which dropped to 1-1. The reigning cahmps lost just one Baltic League game last season. On Saturday, Ventspils carried on showing its power by thrashing Tartu Rock 80-65 at home. Eddie Shannon led the winners with 29 points whle Akselis Vairogs added 11 for Ventspils, which led 41-27 at halftime but saw its lead cut to 53-49 at the end of the third quarter. Shannon led a 10-0 run which sealed the win midway through the final period.
