Bulgarian League, Game 1: October 14, 2006
Lamont Jones Defending Bulgarian League champion Lukoil Academic started the season in style Saturday with a 59-95 win at Balkan. Lamont Jones was in solid form with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for Lukoil, which led 18-29 after 10 minutes and continued to pour it on all night. Lamont Barnes led Lukoil with 17 points, Riste Stefanov added 15 in just 14 minutes and Chavdar Kostov chipped in 12. Balkan's Dwayne Morton finished with a game-high 23 points and 9 rebounds. CSKA Sofia opened up with an impressive 70-98 road win at Dunav. Brad Traina dominated, draining six 3s on his way to 26 points and 11 rebounds, Jordan Bozov added 17 points, Sinisa Avramovski 14 and Dimitar Mirakovski 13. Boyko Milenkov and Simeon Tsenov scored 17 apiece in defeat. Yambol defeated Spartak Pleven 86-85 in overtime. Ninoslav Tmuzic scored 20 and grabbed 11 rebounds before fouling out, while Decho Koeshinov had 20 as well. Pleven's Hrisimir Dimitrov led all scorers with 40. In other action, Cherno More IG overcame Spartak MVR 86-101 and Levski topped Rilski Sportist 76-87.
