Italian League, Game 2: October 14-15, 2006

Rimantas Kaukenas Six teams - VidiVici Bologna, Montepaschi Siena, Upea Capo D'Orlando, Armani Jeans Milano, Legea Scafati and Eldo Napoli - stay undefeated in the Italian League after 2 games. Eldo Napoli edged Premiata Montegranaro 83-80 at home on Sunday. Ansu Sesay led the winners with 19 points while Tierre Brown added 18 for Napoli. Meanwhile, Terrell McIntyre buried a game-winning triple to make Montepaschi beat Siviglia Wear Teramo 86-83. Rimantas Kaukenas led the way for Siena with 17 points. Upea Capo D'Orlando defeated mighty Climamio Bologna 80-68 at home. Alvin Young paced the winners with 33 points on 13-for-17 shooting. Lottomatica Roma bounced back from its inital loss with a 73-60 home win over Snaidero Udine. Luca Garri led Roma with 19 points while Jacob Jaacks had 17 points for Udine. Angelico Biella provided the biggest surprise in this round by downing Benetton 61-71 in Treviso on Sunday. Erik Daniels led Biella with 20 points, while Nikos Zisis had 12 for Benetton. In other games, VidiVici Bologna beat Pallacanestro Cantu 71-59, TDShop.it Livorno edged Air Avellino 78-75, Legea Scafati topped Bipop Carire Reggio Emilia 87-70 while Armani Jeans Milano defeated Whirlpool Varese 87-95 behind 26 points on 11-for-12 shooting from Joseph Blair.


Eldo Napoli stayed undefeated after two games by edging Premiata Montegranaro 83-80 at home on Sunday. Ansu Sesay led the winners with 19 points, Tierre Brown added 18, Michel Morandais had 11 and Matteo Malaventura 10 for Napoli. Ronald Slay had 18 points for Montegranaro, which led 37-45 at halftime and 57-63 after 30 minutes. Malaventura and Sesay fueled a 10-0 run which put Napoli in charge for good, 67-63. The guests were not done, however, as a three-pointer by Slay brought Montegranaro within 82-80. Malaventura made 1 of 2 free throws while Randolph Childress missed a three-point shot which would have taken the game into overtime. Montepaschi Siena also improved to 2-0 by edging Siviglia Wear Teramo 86-83. Rimantas Kaukenas led the way for Siena with 17 points, Romain Sato added 16, Joseph Forte had 15 and Terrell McIntyre 11 for Montepaschi. Anthony Grundy had 22 points for Teramo, which rallied from an 11-point deficit in the final period to tie the game, 83-83, in the final second. McIntyre stepped up with a critical triple which allowed Montepaschi to stay undefeated. Climamio Bologna dropped to 1-1 due to a 80-68 road loss against Upea Capo D'Orlando. Alvin Young paced the winners with 33 points on 13-for-17 shooting. Tyus Edney had 19 points for Climamio while Stefano Mancinelli and Vassil Evtimov each added 10 for the guests, who were limited to just 5 points in the opening period. An unstoppable Young allowed Orlando to keep a safe lead all the way until the final buzzer.

 

Lottomatica Roma registered its first win of the season by beating Snaidero Cucine Udine 73-60 at home on Sunday morning. Luca Garri led the winners with 19 points, David Hawkins added 18 and Dejan Bodiroga 16 for Roma. Jacob Jaacks had 17 points for Udine, Silvio Gigena 12 and Larry O'Bannon 11. Bodiroga and Garri fueled a 17-8 opening run for Roma, and even when Udine got within 19-17 early in the second quarter, a 10-0 run which Garri capped with a triple made it a 12-point game, 36-24, at halftime. Udine rallied right after the break and free throws by Damon Williams got the guests within 38-37. Hawkins and Loukas Mavrokefalidis came to the rescue to give Roma a 52-42 margin after 30 minutes. Hawkins took care of business in the final period, leading Roma to a well-deserved win. Angelico Biella provided the biggest surprise in this round by downing Benetton 61-71 in Treviso on Sunday. Erik Daniels led Biella with 20 points, while Nikos Zisis had 12 for Benetton, which got its last lead at 40-39. Daniels and Pascal Roller helped Biella to get a 45-55 margin already in the final period, but an outstanding Zisis brought Benetton back into the game, 57-58. Taylor Coppenrath and Antonio Porta shined in the final 5 minutes to seal the upset.
