Italian League, Game 4: October 21-22, 2006
Rimantas Kaukenas VidiVici Bologna and Montepaschi Siena lead the Italian League standings each with a perfect 4-0 record. VidiVici Bologna survived a tough battle by edging Lottomatica Roma 64-69 on the road on Sunday. Kris Lang led VidiVici with 25 points while Dejan Bodiroga had 14 points for Roma. Meanwhile, Montepaschi needed overtime to beat Eldo Napoli 80-77 at home on Sunday morning. Romain sato forced the extra period with a close layup in the final seconds of regulation, while Terrell McIntyre sealed the win with a triple. Rimantas Kaukenas led the winners with 19 points, Joseph Forte added 18 while Tierre Brown had 19 points for Napoli. Climamio Bologna had less troubles to down TDShop.it Livorno 90-77 at home on Sunday. Tyus Edney and Marco Belinelli led 5 Climamio players in double digits with 17 points. Snaidero Udine dropped to 1-3 due to a 75-60 road loss against Pallacanestro Cantu, while Benetton Treviso rallied to beat Legea Scafati 77-88. Marco Mordente led 5 Benetton players in double digits with 14 points. In other games, Bibop Carire Reggio Emilia beat Angelico Biella 85-71, Whirlpool Varese thrashed Air Avellino 88-68, Upea Capo D'Orlando edged Siviglia Wear Teramo 80-86 while Premiata Montegranaro defeated Armani Jeans Milano 76-63.

Montepaschi Siena stayed unbeaten with a 4-0 record by edging Eldo Napoli 80-77 in overtime at home on Sunday morning. Kaukenas led the winners with 19 points, Forte added 18, Ben Eze had 16 and McIntyre 13 for Siena. Brown had 19 points for Napoli, Jeff Trepagnier and Jay Larranaga each added 14, Michel Morandais 11 and Ansu Sesay 10 for the guests. Brown and Sesay shined early to give Napoli a 10-21 lead after 10 minutes and still managed to keep a double-digit lead, 50-60, with 4 minutes to go. Kaukenas, McIntyre and Eze combined for all points in a 10-0 run which tied it at 60-60. Trepagnier stepped up with a critical triple, but Romain Sato scored inside to rescue Siena, 65-65, at the end of the regulation. Larranaga buried a triple for a 70-75 Napoli edge with a minute to go, but Siena did not give up. Forte and Eze fueled a 7-0 run, and even when Brown hit a free throw for a 77-76 Napoli deficit, McIntyre sealed the win with one from downtown. Lottomatica Roma dropped to 2-2 due to a 64-69 home loss against VidiVici Bologna. Lang led VidiVici with 25 points. Bodiroga had 14 points for Roma, Vlado Ilievski 11 and Luca Garri 10. Bodiroga followed free throws with a jumper to give Roma a 40-37 edge at halftime, but Lang allowed VidiVici to get a 50-57 lead after three quarters. Roma got as close as 62-63, but Lang and Dusan Vukcevic allowed the guests to win the game.

Climamio Bologna improved to 2-2 by downing TDShop.it Livorno 90-77 at home on Sunday. Edney and Belinelli led the winners each with 17 points. Preston Shumpert added 14, James Thomas had 11 and David Bluthenthal 10 for Climamio. Belinelli, Shumpert and Steffen Hamann led a 36-15 opening run in 12 minutes, while a close basket by Thomas gave the hosts a 24-point lead, 59-35, at halftime. Nothing changed after the break, as Climamio kept a safe margin and cruised to a well-deserved win. Snaidero Udine dropped to 1-3 due to a 75-60 road loss against Pallacanestro Cantu. Phil Jones led Cantu with 19 points, while Damon Williams and Andrew Wisniewski each had 14 for Udine, which stayed in the game for 33 minutes, as a layup by Christian Di Guiliomaria brought the guests within 54-53. It didn't last long, however, as Jones nailed 3 triples in a game-breaking 19-2 run which sealed the outcome. Benetton Treviso rallied to beat Legea Scafati 77-88 and improve to 2-2 in the standings. Marco Mordente had 14 points for Benetton, Nikos Zisis added 13, Richie Frahm 12, Marcus Goree 11 and Spencer Nelson 10 for Benetton, which trailed 65-58 late in the third quarter. Mordente and Nelson fueled a 2-15 run which Frahm capped with a triple, good for a 67-73 Benetton lead midway through the final period. Scafati never recovered and Benetton cruised to a big road win.
