German League, Game 8: November 4-5, 2006
Chris Owens Alba Berlin EnBW Ludwigsburg topped Ratiopharm Ulm 85-78 to stay as the only team unbeaten in the German League with a 7-0 record. Jerry Green and Michel Ferreira each had 15 points for Ludwigsburg. Alba Berlin is right behind with a 6-1 record by downing Paderborn Baskets 92-77 at home also on Saturday. Demond Greene led the winners with 16 points. Chris Owens added 15, Julius Jenkins had 14, Sharrod Ford popped 12 and Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje 10 in an easy home win for Alba, which led 52-40 athalftime and boosted its margin to 72-52 after 30 minutes to seal the outcome long before the final buzzer. RheinEnergie Cologne also improved to 6-1 by topping Sellbytel Baskets Nurnberg 72-82 on the road on Saturday. Alvin Jones led the winners with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Marcus Faison also had 15 points, Aleksandar Nadjfeji added 11 and Marcin Gortat 10 for RheinEnergie, which trailed 46-40 at halftime. Cologne improved its defense right after the break and limited Nurnberg to 6 points in the third quarter. Meanwhile, RheinEnergie got a 52-60 edge after 30 minutes and managed to get a slim lead until the final buzzer. Brose Baskets improved to 5-1 by edging EWE Baskets Oldenburg 67-62 in Bamberg on Sunday. DeJuan Collins led the winners with 12 points, Chris Ensminger and Adam Harrington each added 11 while Zelly Wesson grabbed 10 rebounds for Bamberg. Brose Baskets led almost all the way but the guests got within 63-60 with 39 seconds to go. Collins hit free throws to make ths hosts stay out of trouble until the final buzzer. In other games, the Artland Dragons edged BG Karlsruhe 79-80, Telekom Baskets Bonn beat TBB Trier 76-64, Bayer Giants Leverkusen topped Walter Tigers Tubingen 89-74, the Deutsche Bank Skyliners defeated New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig 59-69 while the Giessen 46ers edged Eisbaren Bremerhaven 66-62.
