Greek League, Game 5: November 4-5, 2006 |
Aris Thessaloniki handed Panionios its first loss of the season to create a four-way logjam at first place in the Greek League. Aris improved to 4-1, like Panionios, Panathinaikos and Olympiacos. The Greens rushed Egaleo 101-56, while Olympiacos easily overcame Maroussi 91-71. Dwayne Jefferson scored 22 to lead Makedonikos to an 80-76 upset of AEK for its first win of the season. In other games, PAOK beat Apollon Patras 83-74, Olympiada Patras downed Olympia Larissa 72-65 behind 24 points from Giorgos Tsiaras and 14 from Giorgfos Printezis, while Panellinios beat AE Larissa 77-67 behind Damir Rancic’s 23 points. Panathinaikos had an easy time at the OAKA Sports Hall, smashing Egaleo 101-56. All 12 players that dresses scored and saw at least 11 minutes of action each. Dimos Dikoudis led six scorers in doouble figures with 14 points. Mike Batiste, Sani Becirovic Tony Delk had 13 each, while Ramounas Siskauskas and Nikos Chatzivrettas added 10 apiece. Coach Zelimir Obradovic found the opportunity to go deep on his bench resting Dimitris Diamantidis, who only played 20 minutes, though tallied 11 assists. Rasad Anderson, Robert Sarovic and Keidren Clark had 14, 12, and 10 points respectively for Egaleo. Olympiacos bounced back from the derby home defeat to Panathinaikos by posting an impressive 91-71 away win at Marousi. Sofoklis Schortsianitis led Olympiacos with 16 points, Damir Mulaomerovic added 15, Panagiotis Vassilopoulos 12 and Scoonie Penn finished with 11 points with 7 assists. Maroussi was led by Alexandros Kyritsis with 18 points, Costas Haralambidis with 12 and Danya Abrams's 10.
Aris Thessaloniki recorded the most significant win of the day, dumping the last remaining undefeated team, Panionios. Savvas Iliadis, who spent last year in Nea Smyrni playing for Panionios, posted 19 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists for Aris. Terrell Castle was also solid for the hosts, running the offense while scoring 16. On the other side, Andre Hutson of Panionios was the dominant presence in the post with 23 points, 16 rebounds (8 of which were offensive), and 10 fouls drawn. Stratos Perperoglou added 12 points, and Dragan Dojcin and Kennedy Winston had 10 apiece. PAOk was led by Giannis Kalambokis’s 23 points on 8-of-9 shooting and 5 assists as it sailed to an 83-74 away win over Apollon Patras. Blagota Sekulic added 15, Jerome Allen 14, Lazaros Agadakos 12 and Vlado Scepanovic 11. Apollon found its offense with Terence Renhcer, Ivo Josipovic, Bryand Markson, and Costas Paschalis who contributed 18, 16, 13 and 11 points respectively. AEK suffered a shock 80-76 defeat against previously winless Makedonikos. Jefferson nailed four triples in his way to 22 points. He was followed by Vladimir Zujovic, who had 15 points; Milos Pavlovic, who contributed 12 points and 5 offensive rebounds; Stavros Tountziarakis who added 12; and Anthony Dobbins, who had 10. AEK got 20 points on 7-of-7 two-point shooting and 10 rebounds from Christos Tapoutos. Nestoras Kommatos added in 18 points from 5 three-pointers, Brent Scott had 15 and Giannis Gagaloudis 12 for AEK.
