Greek League Game 6, November 11-12, 2006 |
fer joThe three Euroleague teams stand alone atop the Greek League after Gameday 6 with 5-1 records. Tony Delk scored 18 to lead Panathinaikos over PAOK in Thessaloniki, 76-89, Olympiacos broke Makedonikos 102-59 in a game where coach Pini Gershon was able to rely on his reserves and Aris's perimeter players made the difference in its 71-82 away win over Olympiada Patras. In other games, AEK easily beat Olympia Larissa 89-74, Panellinios forced Panionios 74-72 to its second straight loss after a 4-0 start, while Egaleo and AE Larissa recorded home win over Maroussi and Apollon Patras respectively.
Former Panathinaikos player Vlado Scepanovic played like he was out for revenge against Greens coach Zelimir Obradodovic, who showed him the door this summer. However his 26 points on four triples weren't enough as Panathinaikos triumphed 76-89. The visitors took charge from the opening tip and never looked back, leading by 15 at halftime and at the end of the third period. Delk was the top scorer with 18 points, Nikos Chatzivrettas chipped in 16, while Kostas Tsartsaris and Ramunas Siskauskas had 10 each. Blagota Sekulic finished 18 points and 11 rebounds for PAOK, while Giannnis Kalampokis and Drago Pasalic added 10 apiece. Olympiacos crushed Makedonikos 102-59 at the Peace and Friendship Stadium. Gershon used the opportunity to play his second stringers, as Damir Mulaomerovic scored 19 points and dished 4 assists, Manolis Papamakarios had 16 points from four three-pointers, Giannis Bouroussis and Sofoklis Schortsianitis added 11 and Christos Harisis added 10. All 12 Reds that dressed played at least 10 minutes, while nobody surpassed 22 minutes. Dwayne Jefferson lead the way for struggling Makedonikos with 16 points, Vladimir Zujovic poured in 14 and Sergan Jovanovic added 13. Aris escaped from Patras with a 71-82 win over Olympiada. Guards Terrell Castle, Mahmoud Abdoul-Rauf and Spiros Panteliadis scored 22, 10 and 10 points respectively to cause most of the trouble for the hosts. Mike Wilkinson contributed 16 points and 8 rebounds in the paint. Steve Burt posted 24 points for Olympiada, while Simon Petrov had 15 and Antonis Asimakopoulos 10.
AEK built an early lead against Olympia Larissa and spent an easy evening at OAKA Sports Hall nursing the lead on the way to an 89-74 win. Five AEK players scored in double digits: Prodromos Nikolaidis 17, Brent Scott 15, Sotiris Nikolaidis 14, Christos Tapoutos 11 and Jasmin Perkovic also 11. Savo Djikanovic had 21 for Olympia, followed by former AEK player Giorgos Tsiaras, who contributed 15, Vladimir Krstic with 14 and Giorgos Apostolidis with 10. After trailing by as many as 19 points, Panionios came close to an epic comeback and led 69-72. However, Panellinios did not allow the guest to score again till the buzzer and finally won 74-72. Three players from the hosts scored 11 points – newcomer Anthony Goldwire, Andre Patterson, and Stevan Nadjfeji. Dragan Dojcin and Andre Hutson had 16 each for Panionios. In other games, Egaleo beat Maroussi 91-88 behind 36 points and the winning triple from Rashad Anderson, while AE Larissa beat Apollon Patras 90-88 behind 23 points from Arthur Lee.
