German League, Game 9: November 11-12, 2006 |
The ninth week of the German League saw leader Alba Berlin escape with a narrow road win from Eisbaren Bremerhaven by 74-76 behind 20 points by Sharrod Ford. The duel between a Euroleague team and a ULEB Cup team fell for the Euroleague side as hosting RheinEnergie outlasted Brose Baskets by 79-73. Marcus Faison led the winners with 15 points and DeJuan Collins and Zelly Wesson bagged 17 apiece for the team of Bamberg. A highlight from the reat of games was the duel between the Deutsche Bank Skyliners and Telekom Bonn, won by the team of Frankfurt at home by 66-59 behind 20 points by Travon-Levar Bryant.
The game between RheinEnergie and Brose Baskets was the game of the week in Germany, but it soon saw that the Euroleague side was in best shape as the hosts escaped 22-9 after 10 minutes. The second quarter was more balanced, as everyone expected, and the teams reached the break with a 45-30 advantage for RheinEnergie, who was living on the first-period margin. Despite's Brose's good night from the arc with a 8 of 16, in front of the hosts' 6 of 18, RheinEnergie was more concentrated from the charity line in the key moments. After 30 minutes tha score showed a 60-48. In the last perid, Brose Baskets stepped on the gas but time was running out and the hosts escaped with the win. Marcus Faison led the winners with 15 points, Aleksandar Nadjfeji added 14, Ronald Burrell and Demond Mallet bagged 13 apiece and Marcin Gortat had 10. For Brose, DeJuan Collins had 17 points, while K'Zell Wesson also added 17 together with 11 rebounds. Chris Ensminger also had 11 for Brose. RheinEnergie shares the first place with Alba Berlin and EnBW L'burg all with a 7-1 record, while Brose Baslets drops to 5-2.
Leader Alba Berlin suffered this time to take a road win by two points at Eisbaren Bremerhaven by 74-76. The game was balanced throughout and it reached the break with a 32-40 for Alba. However the hosts reacted also in the third period and came closer and closer despite a 6 of 22 from beyond the arc. Both teams also grabbed 30 boards each, but it was in the free throw line where Alba kept a cold hand and made almost a 86% of the shots while Eisbaren Bremerhaven got stuck at 70%. Five players scored in double digits for Alba led by Sharrod Ford and his 20 points. Julius Jenkins added 19 and then three players posted 10 apiece: Koko Archibong, Chris Owens and Will Avery. In other games, the Deutsche Bank Skyliners outlasted Telekom Bonn at home by 66-59; ratiopharm Ulm fell at home against New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig by 80-83; the Artland Dragons dominated the Giessen46ers at home by 80-69; the WALTER TIGERS Tübingen also won at home against BG Karlsruhe by 83-61. In more games, EWE Baskets Oldenburg stood strong at home against EnBW Ludwigsburg by 68-55; Paderborn Baskets also triumphed at home by 85-82 against sellbytel Baskets Nürnberg and TBB Trier was a home winner too against Bayer Giants Leverkusen, 89-70.
