 Defending champion Benetton Treviso handed VidiVici Bologna its first loss of the season on Sunday, allowing Montepaschi Siena to take advantage and slide into a share of first place with a 101-76 mauling of TDShop.it Livorno. Both VidiVici and Siena now have 6-1 records. Benetton is one of six teams tied for fourth place with a 4-3 mark. Benetton used a fine defensive effort to top VidiVici 59-64, as Marcus Goree led the way with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Armani Jeans Milano moved into sole possession of third place with a 91-85 win over Climamio Bologna. Eldo Napoli joined the group in fourth place after topping Lottomatica Roma 70-63. Reece Gaines scored the game-winner in the closing seconds as Angelico Biella edged Snaidero Udine 89-91. In other games, Giacomo Galanda scored 18 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to lead Whirlpool Varese past Siviglia Wear Teramo 81-75; Premiata Montegranaro got 19 points and 8 boards from Ronald Slay to beat Pallacanestro Cantu 83-68; Air Avellino defeated Bipop Carire Reggio Emilia 90-80 behind Harold Jamison's 21 points and Legea Scafati edged Upea Capo d'Orlando 77-78.
Benetton led 10-16 after 10 minutes, before a low-scoring second period allowed VidiVici to close the gap to 22-24 at halftime. Treviso picked up its attack for 22 third-quarter points, which helped it remain on top until the final whistle. Angelo Gigli came off the bench for 12 points and 6 rebounds in 19 minutes, while Nikos Zisis added 10 points and 5 assists. Terrell Lyday also scored 10. Brett Blizzard scored 13 points in defeat. Milano outscored Climamio 29-18 in the fourth quarter to record a come-from-behind win. The hosts started the final period with a game-changing 15-2 run. Climamio fought back and Tyus Edney twice tied the score with less than three minutes on the clock, but Sven Schulze answered the second time with a three, Marco Belinelli's attempted response missed and Milano was left to celebrate. Kiwane Garris led five Milano scorers in double figures with 18, while Travis Watson added 16 points and 11 rebounds. Belinelli scored 31 points for Climamio, David Bluthenthal 17 and Edney finished with 15 points and 5 assists. Napoli held Roma to 13 fourth-quarter points for a win in a low-scoring affair. Ansu Sesay and James Larranaga had 18 apiece and Tierre Brown 11 for Eldo. Vlado Ilievski had 16 and Dejan Bodiroga 11 for Lottomatica.
Rimas Kaukenas scored 27 points in 25 minutes to lead Montepaschi past Livorno. Siena led for much of the game, but turned it on late with a 38-point fourth quarter to seal it. Joseph Forte added 17, Marco Carraretto 14 and Romain Sato 11 for the winners. Alan Daniels paced Livorno with 23. Udine led 59-43 at halftime and the lead reached 20 in the third quarter, but Angelico Biella stormed back with a 0-13 run to get back in the game. The visitors took their first lead on a Gaines triple early in the fourth quarter, and the game went back-and-forth in the final minutes. Jacob Jaacks gave Udine an 89-87 lead with a minutes to go, but Erik Daniels tied it and Gaines won it in the final seconds. Taquan Dean led Biella with 21, while Gaines had 16 points and 8 rebounds and Alessandro Frosini score 16. Joel Zaccheti led Udine with 13, Andrew Wisniewski added 12, Jaacks and Silvio Gigena 11 and Larry O'Bannon 10.
