Baltic League, Game 10: November 25-26, 2006 |
Zalgiris Kaunas took back-to-back wins against Barons by 101-76 (Hanno Mottola, 17 points) and Neptunas Klaipeda by 92-96 (Marcelinho Machado, 20 points) this weekend, and is leading with a perfect 10-0 record the Baltic League Group A. On the other hand, Lietuvos rytas Vilnius edged ASK Riga, 75-68 (Joao Paolo Batista, 18 points and 21 boards), remaining atop the Group B with a 9-1 record, while Ventspils climbed to a 6-3 record by beating Nevezys by 95-81 as Justin Love led the perennial Latvian champs with his 20 points.
Zalgiris thrashed Barons of Latvia, 101-76, led by 17 points of Hanno Mottola, a game they took under control already in the first quarter by leading 28-17. Kirk Penney also scored 17, Paulius Jankunas bagged 15 with 9 rebounds and Vidas Ginevicius nailed 13. On Sunday, Zalgiris edged 92-96 Neptunas led by 20 points nailed by Marcelinho Machado while Marko Popovic and Hanno Mottola netted 19 apiece, Paulius Jankunas amassed 13 with 9 boards while Jonas Maciulis bagged 10.
Lietuvos rytas edged 75-68 ASK Riga, a game balanced during all the forty minutes with the hosts leading 46-39 at halftime. Sandis Valters cut the margin to 68-71 in the final minutes, but Joao Paolo Batista capped his outstanding performance sealing the win for his side. Batista scored 18 points added with 21 rebounds, Andrius Slezas nailed 15 while Robert Stelmahers and Ttus Ivory drilled 11 apiece.
Ventpsils outlasted Nevezys on Saturday, 95-81, behind 20 points by Justin Love and 18 of Uvis Helmanis. The perennial Latvian champions led 43-39 at halftime, and just in the last quarter got a comfortable margin to reach the win.
In the other games, Atletas Kaunas edged 80-76 Panevezys, Kalev Tallinn topped 90-76 Sakalai, Neptunas crushed 82-73 Siauliai and Panevezys beat 80-70 Rock of Estonia.
