German League, Game 11: November 25-26, 2006 |
With its offense running on all cylinders, particularly in the third quarter, Alba Berlin held onto its share of first place in the German League by taking an 81-92 road win at sixth-placed Artland. Julius Jenkins led five Alba double-figure scorers with 20 points. Co-leader Luwigsburg escaped with a 64-66 road win mid-table Paderborn as Jerry Green tallied 16 points. RheinEnergie Cologne courted danger at home before talling from a 12-point deficit after three quarters to beat Braunschweig 80-78. Demond Mallet had 19 points for RheinEnergie, which holds only third place, a victory ahead of Brose Baskets Bamberg, whose game for this round was postponed until late January. In other results; Bonn defeated host Oldenburg 78-80 as John Bowler had 18 points; Frankfurt topped visiting Karlsruhe 61-50 as Jimmy Mcinney and Kevin Johnson scored 10 each; Trier dropped visiting Geissen 72-63 thanks to 26 from Tommy Adams; Tubingen beat Bremerhaven 68-58 as Ajene Malaki Moye posted 24; and Ulm topped Leverkusen 95-92 in comeback fashion as Derrick Allen poured in 25 points.
Alba held a slim 42-44 edge on the road at halftime against Artland, but once the break was over, exploded for 29 points in 10 minutes that locked up the victory. Alba's 36-28 rebounding edge, including 15 offensive boards, were also key to the victory. Jenkins had a lot of scoring help, as Will Avery popped for 17 points, Chris Owens 16, Sharrod Ford 14 and Koko Archibong 10. Chad Prewitt led Artland with 22 points. RheinEnergie's defense arrived late but held Braunschweig to 8 points in the final quarter to save an important home victory. Braunschweig had led by 17-24 after 10 minutes, 36-46 at the break and 70-68 after three quarters before RheinEnergie completely turned things around. Mallet was supported by Aleksandar Nadjfeji with 15 points, Immanuel McElroy with 11 and Marcus Faison with 10. Milko Bjelica paced Braunschweig with 21 points.
