Luis Scola tau Another week, another Spanish League win for Real Madrid, who stays unbeaten after 11 games by topping Gran Canaria Grupo Dunas 68-80 on the road on Sunday morning. Louis Bullock and Felipe Reyes led the winners each with 17 points, as Real Madrid kept a safe lead throughout the second half and did not have troubles to add an otherwise difficult road win. Tau Ceramica stays second with a 10-1 record by downing DKV Joventut 97-74 in Vitoria on Sunday night. Luis Scola shined with 24 points on 8-for-10 shooting, 8 of 8 free throws and 12 rebounds. Winterthur FC Barcelona bounced back from consecutive Spanish League losses by thrashing difficult Caja San Fernando 80-60, breaking its opponent's six-game winning streak. Juan Carlos Navarro led the way with 22 points while Jaka Lakovic scored 16 points and dished 10 assists for Barcelona. Unicaja dropped to 5-6 due to a 79-74 road loss against CB Granada despite 24 points from Jiri Welsch. In other games, Etosa Alicante edged Bruesa GBC 87-81, Akasvayu Girona beat MMT Estudiantes 64-77, Grupo Capitol Valladolid topped Lagun Aro Bilbao Basket 69-60, Polaris World CB Murcia downed Alta Gestion Fuenlabrada 84-70 while Pamesa Valencia rallied to beat ViveMenorca 71-68.

Real Madrid stayed undefeated by downing Gran Canaria Grupo Dunas 68-80 on the road on Sunday morning. Bullock and Reyes led the winners each with 17 points. Charles Smith and Raul Lopez added 11 apiece while Ratko Varda had 10 for Real Madrid. Jim Moran had 13 points for Gran Canaria, Jimmie Hunter added 12 while Sitapha Savane and Kornel David each tallied 10 for the hosts, who dropped to 5-6. Varda and Smith fueled a 6-13 opening run which allowed Real Madrid to keep a 20-23 edge after 10 minutes. Reyes and Alex Mumbru shined late in the second quarter to make Madrid extend its margin to 29-35 at the break. The guests opened the second half with a 2-9 run while a big triple by Bullock made it a 15-point game, 48-63, after 30 minutes. Gran Canaria never recovered and Madrid sealed a well-deserved win long before the final buzzer. Winterthur FC Barcelona improved to 5-6 by thrashing Caja San Fernando 80-60 at home on Sunday morning, breaking the guests' six-game winning streak. Navarro had 17 of his 22 points after the break to become Barcelona's decisive factor. Lakovic posted a double-double of 16 points and 10 assists, Michalis Kakiouzis had 14 points and Fran Vazquez 11 for Barcelona. Alternative zone defenses and an outstanding Demetrius Alexander allowed Caja San Fernando to stay in the game, 36-34, at halftime. Navarro exploded after the intermission, as he had 10 points in the third quarter to make Barcelona get a 56-46 lead after three quarters. The guests failed to rally due to its poor shot selection and Barcelona added a much-needed win.

Tau Ceramica had less troubles than expected to beat DKV Joventut 97-74 and improve to 10-1 in the standings. Scola simply rolled with 24 points on 8-for-10 shooting, 8 of 8 free throws and 12 rebounds. Zoran Planinic added 15 points, Igor Rakocevic had 14 and Tiago Splitter 12 for Tau. Rudy Fernandez had 17 points for Joventut while Charles Gaines added 11. Planinic and Scola led a 11-0 run which allowed Tau to get a 27-15 margin after 10 minutes. Gaines and an outstanding Fernandez brought Joventut within 38-32, but Scola kept playing close to perfection and allowed Tau to keep a 46-38 lead at the break. Scola got some help from Rakocevic and Mirza Teletovic to make Tau extend its margin to 73-61 after 30 minutes. Scola missed his first shot with 6 minutes to go, when Tau had boosted its lead to 88-65 to seal a big home win. Meanwhile, Unicaja dropped to 5-6 due to a 79-74 road loss against CB Granada. Samo Udrih led the winners with 22 points. Welsch had 24 points for Unicaja while Berni Rodriguez added 20 for the guests, who trailed 51-32 midway through the third quarter. Welch and Rodriguez led the guests' wild comeback in the final period, while back-to-back triples by Kostas Vassileadis got Unicaja within 75-72 with 30 seconds to go. Curtis Borchardt and Chris Hernandez allowed Granada to seal the win from the free throw line.
