Greek League, Game 10: December 9-10, 2006 |
Panathinaikos took sole possession of first place in the Greek League after easing past Panionios 87-57, while PAOK defeated Aris 101-99 in a dramatic double-overtime Thessaloníki derby. Dimos Dikoudis posted 15 points and 6 rebounds as the Greens improved to 9-1, while Olympiacos got 17 points and 7 boards from Adrija Zizic to edge AEK 74-70 to climb to second place at 8-2. Panellinios defeated Makedonikos 68-62 as Sotiris Karapostolou scored 19. Reda Rhalimi and Dwayne Jefferson scored 23 and 21 points, respectively, for Makedonikos. Apollon Patras beat Maroussi 58-55 in a game where Ivo Josipovic and Slobodan Bozovic led the winners with 11 points apiece and Danya Abrams scored 13 in defeat. The derby of Larissa had one king as Olympia dominated AEL by 78-90 on the road. Matt Walsh led the way with 26 points. Olympiada Patras recorded a convincing 60-80 road win at Egaleo behind Steve Burt, who led the winners with 21, while Robert Sarovic was Egaleo's top scorer with 14.
Panathinaikos crushed Panionios 87-57. Dikoudis led the Greek champs with 15 points and 6 rebounds, while Sani Becirovic added 14 and Milos Vujanic 13 points. Two more players, Dimitris Diamantidis and Robertas Javtokas, contributed 10 points apiece; Diamantidis had 6 assists. Andre Hutson and Vladislav Dragojlovic scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, for Panionios, which lost control from the first period. Olympiacos topped AEK 74-70. The Reds led by as many as 18 in the third period before a late AEK charge. Zizic led the winners with 17 and 7 boards, while Henry Dimercant and Giannis Bourousis added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Nestoras Kommatos led AEK with 22 points, while Jasmin Perkovic contributed 11.
The biggest game was held in Thessaloniki, where PAOK beat Aris 101-99 in a 50-minute battle, which was reminiscent of the old traditional derbies of the 1980s and early '90s. Vlado Scepanovic led PAOK with 21 points, Darius Washington added 18, Giannis Kalabokis 16 and Jason Parker 14. Blagota Sekulic contributed 13 points plus 9 rebounds and Drago Pasalic 12 points plus 11 boards. Terrel Castle had an incredible game leading Aris with 34 points, but missed the winning three at the end of the second overtime. Savvas Iliadis and Alex Scales added 25 and 21 points respectively, while Giorgos Kalaitzis had 8 points and 9 rebounds.
