Ventspils suffered a 68-73 loss to ASK Riga at home on Saturday in the Baltic League, dropping to third place in Group B of the competition with a 7-5 record, while Riga remained in second with a 9-2 mark. Sandis Valters bagged 16 points and Curtis Millage 14 for Riga, while Ventspils had 13 from Justin Love and 12 apiece by Eddie Shannon and Aigars Vitols. ASK Riga started on fire and took an early 2-8 lead in the first quarter. Shannon got his team within 9-10 with a bomb from downtown, but the guests still took their first double digit-cushion, 15-25 at the end of the quarter. Riga maintained its narrow 32-40 lead at halftime. The hosts closed to 40-42 early in the third quarter, but Valters responded with back-to-back threes for a 47-57 advantage, before Love and Vitols re-closed the gap to trail 54-59 after 30 minutes. In the last quarter Uvis Helmanis pushed Ventspils within 58-60 then a Dalron Johnson shot from beyond the arc gave Ventspils hope, but another three missed by Shannon, and a basket by Millage sealed the well-deserved win for ASK Riga.
