Will Avery Alba Berlin Alba Berlin took the big showdown of the week by edging EnBW Ludwigsburg 99-90 in overtime in Berlin on Saturday. Both teams now tie atop the German League standings, each with an 11-2 record. Will Avery led the winners with 20 points. Chris Owens posted a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds, Koko Archibong added 17 points while Julius Jenkins, Nenad Canak and Sharrod Ford each had 11 for Alba. Jerry Green had 27 points for Ludwigsburg, including a three-pointer which allowed his team to force overtime at 82-82. Avery hit back-to-back triples in the extra period to break the game for good. Brose Baskets dropped to 6-5 due to a 76-72 road loss against New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig. Darren Fenn had 14 points for Brose Baskets while DeJuan Collins added 12. Brose Baskets trailed 62-42 after 30 minutes and rallied in the final period but it happened to be too little, too late for the guests. RheinEnergie joins a three-way tie stop the standings at 11-2 by beating BG Karlsruhe 69-82 on the road on Sunday. Marcin Gortat led RheinEnergie with 18 points, Mlajden Sljivancanin added 15 and Demond Mallet 12 for the winners. RheinEnergie made 7 of 10 triples in the opening half - Johaness Strasser fired in his three attempts - and relied on Gortat in the middle to get a 37-47 lead at the break. Even when Karlsruhe got within 57-61 after 30 minutes, Sljivancanin and Mallet took care of business and led RheinEnergie to a well-deserved win. In other games, Sellbytel Baskets Nurnberg topped Telekom Baskets Bonn 76-87, the Giessen 46ers edged EWE Baskets Oldenburg 80-74, the Artland Dragons overwhelmed the Deutsche Bank Skyliners 80-55, TBB Trier beat Walter Tigers Tubingen 63-69, Paderborn Baskets bested Bayer Giants Leverkusen 87-90 while Eisbaren Bremenhaven thrashed Ratiopharm Ulm 92-65.
