Greek League, Game 11: December 16-17, 2006
Mike Wilkinson - Aris TT Bank Panathinaikos remained atop the Greek League after Week 11 by overcoming Maroussi on the road 60-66. Milos Vujanic sealed the result with a clutch triple as the Greens improved to 10-1. Aris beat AE Larissa 78-69 to keep within one game of the leaders, while Olympiacos suffered the surprise loss of the weekend, going down 84-76 at the hands of Panionios. The Reds now share third place with Panionios at 8-3. AEK suffered a shock home defeat 69-72 by newcomer Egaleo, while PAOK scored a 63-68 win in Patras against Olympiada. In other games, Olympia Larissa beat Panellinios 89-81 behind Matt Walsh’s 27 points on 4-of-5 three-point shooting and Makedonikos edged Apollon Patras 72-68 as Dwayne Jefferson scored 18 points.

Panathinaikos extended its best ever start, improving to 22-1 in all competitions. Coach Zeljko Obradovic's team was coasting for the first three-and-a-half periods and led 47-57 with five minutes to go. However Alexandros Kyritsis and Renaldas Seibutis both drilled a three during a 10-0 run that got Maroussi back in the game. A triple from Vujanic 29 seconds before the final buzzer saved the day for Panathinaikos and helped the guests to seal a critical 60-66 away win. Vujanic led the Greens with 14 points, while Sani Becirovic added 11. Seibutis scored 12 for Maroussi, Kyritsis had 11 and Chris Thomas 10. Panionios sent Olympiacos to its third defeat and confirmed its status as a contender. The hosts had four scorers in double figures; Stratos Perperoglou led the way with 18 points and 6 drawn fouls, Kennedy Winston added 16, Andre Hutson 15 and Vladimir Dragojlovic posted a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Scoonie Penn lscored 18 for Olympiacos, but shot 0-for-5 from downtown. Manolis Papamakarios tried to inspire the Reds with 15 points and 3 steals, Giannis Bouroussis added another positive performance of 10 points and 7 rebounds, while Andrija Zizic had 11 points, but committed 7 turnovers.

Aris used a 22-14 third quarter to run away from mighty AE Larissa. Coach Andrea Mazzon went deep to his bench and used all 12 players; Mike Wilkinson was the high scorer with 16 points and 9 rebounds – 7 of them offensive. Jeremiah Massey added 13 and Terrell Castle 10. Giorgos Pavlidis scored 18 points and Arthur Lee added 11 for visiting Larissa. PAOK trailed 31-28 at halftime in Patras against Olympiada, but kept its nerve in the final quarter to win 68-63. Vlado Scepanovic and Darius Washington had 17 points each, while Giannis Kalampokis and Dimitris Charitopoulos added 15 and 10 respectively. Steve Burtt was the only Olympiada player to score in double figures with 23. AEK suffered a shock home defeat to newcomer Egaleo. The guests had five scorers in double figures; Rashad Anderson 14, Keidren Clark 13, Nikos Pettas 12, Avraam Kallinikidis 12 and Zoran Makic 11. Jasmin Perkovic scored 17 points for AEK, while Prodromos Nikolaidis, Christos Tapoutos and Brent Scott each had 10.
