Italian League, Game 12: December 16-17, 2006
Larry OBannon Snaidero VidiVici Bologna became the exclusive leader atop the Italian League standings with a 10-2 record by thrashing Premiata Montegranaro 90-71 at home on Sunday. Guilherme Giovannoni led 5 Virtus players in double digits with 16 points. Snaidero Cucine Udine allowed VidiVici to lead the standings  by downing Montepaschi Siena 78-69 at home on Sunday morning. Larry O'Bannon led the winners with 16 points while Jacob Jaacks posted a osted a double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds for Udine, which improved to 5-7. Meanwhile, Lottomatica moved up to 6-6 by downing visiting Tisettanta Cantu 71-53 in Roma on Sunday. Loukas Mavrokefalidis paced Roma with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Climamio dropped to 5-7 due to a due to a 95-84 road loss against Bibop Carire Reggio Emilia despite 29 points from Marco Belinelli, while Benetton also registered a loss, 72-83 against Upea Capo d'Orlando in Treviso on Saturday. Last but not least, Eldo Napoli improved to 7-5 and ties for the fourth spot in the standings by edging Angelico Biella 65-77 on the road. Ansu Sesay led the winners with 21 points. In other games, Siviglia Wear Teramo beat Legea Scafati 92-80 while Whirlpool Varese bested TDShop.it Livorno 89-81.

Lottomatica Roma improved to 6-6 by downing visiting Tisettanta Cantu 71-53 on Sunday. Loukas Mavrokefalidis led the winners with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Alex Righetti added 11 for Roma, which led 37-30 at halftime. Mavrokefalidis and Mire Chatman allowed Roma to get a 52-43 margin after 30 minutes, while a 9-1 opening run in the final period sealed the outcome. Meanwhile, Climamio Bologna dropped to 5-7 due to a 95-84 road loss against Bibop Carire Reggio Emilia. Luis Flores had 24 points to lead Reggio Emilia. Marco Belinelli had 29 points for Climamio, Stefano Mancinelli added 18, David Bluthenthal 14 and Tyus Edney 10 for the guests. Reggio Emilia led 51-39 at halftime and boosted its margin to 74-53 late in the third quarter. Bluthenthal and Belinelli fueled the Climamio comeback. A rain of three-pointers by Belinelli got Climamio within 85-78 with 4 minutes to go, but the guests could not complete their comeback. Eldo Napoli went up to 7-5 and joins a four-way tie for the fourth place in the standings by topping Angelico Biella 65-77 on the road on Sunday. Sesay led the winners with 21 points, Tyrone Ellis added 17 while Mason Rocca had 13 for Napoli. A three-pointer by Pascal Roller allowed Biella to get a 28-27 edge at halftime. Sesay and Michel Morandais helped Napoli to get a 38-46 margin midway through the third quarter but Biella got within 49-50 early in the final period. Ellis and Sesay nailed 2 three-pointers apiece to keep Napoli ahead, 60-67, with 2 minutes to go, enough to seal a well-deserved win.

Snaidero Cucine Udine keeps rallying in the Italian League standings by downing Montepaschi Siena 78-69 at home on Sunday morning. Udine improved to 5-7 while Montepaschi dropped to 9-3. Larry O'Bannon led the winners with 16 points. Jacob Jaacks posted a double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds while Jerome Allen had 11 points for Snaidero. Terrell McIntyre had 19 points for Montepaschi while Lonny Baxter and Rimantas Kaukenas each added 11. Jaacks and O'Bannon helped Snaidero to get a 18-12 lead after 10 minutes while free throws by Joel Zacchetti helped the hosts to extend it to 37-30 at halftime. A three-pointer by McIntyre got Siena within 41-39 but Allen and Zacchetti made Udine recover and make it a 14-point game, 59-45, after 30 minutes. Montepaschi could not really and Snaidero cruised to a well-deserved win. Benetton dropped to 7-5 due to a 72-83 home loss against Upea Capo d'Orlando in Treviso on Saturday. Once again Alvin Young paced the winners with 25 points. Terrell Lyday had 13 points for Benetton, Matteo Soragna and Marco Mordente each added 12, Marcus Goree 11 and Angelo Gigli 10 for the hosts. Upea led 29-36 at halftime and even when Benetton got within 52-56 late in the third quarter, the guests used a 2-11 run to boost their margin to 54-67 and seal the win.
