Bulgarian League, Game 14: December 21-22, 2006
Todor Stoykov - Lukoil Defending champion Lukoil Academic Sofia returned to the top of the Bulgarian League Saturday by topping rival CSKA 87-79. The loss was CSKA's first of the season and brought both teams to 13-1 in the table, but Academic holds the top spot thanks to a better head-to-head points difference between the teams. After a balanced first quarter ended at 14-14, Academic took a 44-30 margin at halftime. CSKA came back in the second half and climbed within 74-73 with 3 minutes left in the match. But Academic's free-throw shooting combined with some easy points in the open court from Georgi Davidov made the difference in the end. Academic's Todor Stoykov had a game-high 24 points, including 16 in the second half, while Lamont Jones finished with 19 points and 6 assists and Boyko Mladenov came off the bench to post 14 with 6 rebounds.
