Lietuvos Rytas finished 2006 in style by getting back-to-back road wins away over Atletas Kaunas and Panevezys to stay atop the Baltic League group B table with an 11-1 record. Rytas downed Atletas 59-88 on Wednesday behind 29 points on 12-of-17 two-pointers from Joao Paulo Batista. He also grabbed 12 rebounds for a double-double. Mindaugas Lukauskis added 14 points, Darius Pakamanis had 11 while Janis Blums scored 10 points and dished 4 assists for the winners. On Thursday, Rytas had to battle harder than expected to beat Panevezys 79-90 in come-from-behind fashion. Panevezys led by as many as 14 points, 39-25, early in the second quarter, but Rytas managed to rally and seal the win long before the final buzzer. Matt Nielsen led the way with a double-double of 27 points and 14 rebounds. Batista added 23 points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double in as many games, Lukauskis had 17 points while Roberts Stelmahers dished 9 assists for Rytas. In other games, Barons topped Sakalai 63-75, Nevezis of Lithuania outlasted Tartu Rock of Estonia 98-90, Lacplesa Alus of Latvia got a thrilling 84-87 road win over Siauliai while ASK Riga bested Panevezys 69-78.
