Marco Belinelli Climamio Climamio Bologna took the big showdown in the Italian League this week by edging Benetton Treviso 74-76 on the road on Sunday, in a rematch of last year's finals. Both teams join a five-way tie for the seventh place, all at 7-7. Marco Belinelli led the winners with 19 points while David Bluthenthal added 17. Nikos Zisis had 16 points for Benetton, who missed injured star Marcus Goree. Montepaschi Siena and VidiVici Bologna keep tying atop the standings, each with a 11-3 record. Montepaschi edged Armani Jeans Milano 67-74 on the road on Sunday morning. Joseph Forte led the way with 22 points, while Ben Eze played a decisive role in the final period. Snaidero Cucine Udine improved to 6-8 by thrashing visiting Eldo Napoli 97-80 on Sunday behind 22 points from Jerome Allen, while Lottomatica Roma dropped to 7-7 due to a 90-69 road loss against Whirlpool Varese. In other games, VidiVici Bologna thrashed Angelico Biella 89-63, Siviglia Wear Teramo overwhelmed Bipop Carire R.Emilia 86-60, Legea Scafati topped TDShop.it Livorno 79-83, Premiata Montegranaro beat Upea Capo d'Orlando 86-77 while Pallacanestro Cantu edged Air Avellino 73-74.

Montepaschi Siena improved to 11-3 and keeps tying atop the standings by edging Armani Jeans Milano 67-74 on the road on Sunday morning. Forte led the way with 22 points, Romain Sato added 14, Eze had 12 and Rimantas Kaukenas 10 for Montepaschi, which trailed 55-52 after three quarters. Sato and an outstanding Eze shined in the final period to make Siena add a difficult road win. Climamio Bologna bounced back from recent losses by beating Benetton 74-76 in Treviso on Sunday night. Belinelli led the winners with 19 points, Bluthenthal added 17, Tyus Edney had 14 and Stefano Mancinelli 12 for Climamio. Nikos Zisis had 16 points for Benetton while Spencer Nelson and Marco Mordente each added 13. Climamio used a 3-11 opening run to keep a 14-17 edge after 10 minutes. A 11-0 run which Preston Shumpert capped with a layup gave Benetton a 28-23 lead, but Belinelli had 8 unanswered points to give Climamio a 28-31 halftime margin. Edney and Mancinelli paced Climamio after the break, as the guests kept a 53-58 edge after 30 minutes. A 0-6 run which Bluthenthal capped with a free throw made it a 12-point game, 55-67, midway through the final period. Nelson and Smith got Benetton within 71-74 already in the final minute. Mordente buried a triple for a 74-76 deficit, but missed two potential game-winners in the final minute.

Snaidero Cucine Udine improved to 6-8 by thrashing visiting Eldo Napoli 97-80 on Sunday. Allen led the winners with 22 points on 6-of-8 three-pointers against his former team. Jacob Jaacks posted a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds, Joel Zacchetti added 12 points and Patrick Mutombo 11 for Udine. Ansu Sesay had 17 points for Napoli, Jeff Trepagnier 15 and Matteo Malaventura 11. A three-pointer by Sesay gave Napoli a 24-25 edge after 10 minutes, but Jaacks had 12 points in the second quarter to make Snaidero get a 52-45 halftime lead. Mutombo and Kristaps Valters fueled a 14-4 run which made it a 20-point game, 75-55, enough for Udine to cruise to a well-deserved win. Lottomatica Roma dropped to 7-7 due to a 90-69 road loss against Whirlpool Varese. Keith Carter led 5 Varese players in double digits with 19 points. Dejan Bodiroga had 22 points for Roma while David Hawkins added 11. Roma trailed all the way, as Varese used a 8-0 opening run to get a 23-13 lead after 10 minutes, which the hosts extended to 44-27 at halftime. Varese kept a double-digit lead in the second half and cruised to a big win.
