Nikos Zisis Benetton Another week, another tie atop the Italian League standings. Montepaschi Siena and VidiVici Bologna now have a three-game advantage over everyone else and keep sharing the top spot at 12-3. Montepaschi downed Premiata Montegranaro 90-73 at home on Sunday. Rimantas Kaukenas led 6 Montepaschi players in double digits with 23 points. Meanwhile, VidiVici bested Legea Scafati 85-92 on the road behind 23 points from Christian Drejer. Nikos Zisis became the weekend hero by firing it a nine-meter three-pointer to make Benetton Treviso edge Bipop Carire Reggio Emilia 63-66 on the road. Newcomer Erazem Lorbek paced the winners with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Eldo Napoli now ties for the third place at 9-6 by simply overwhelming Armani Jeans Milano 84-58 at home on Sunday morning behind 18 points from Jeff Trepagnier. Climamio Bologna topped Air Avellino 94-76 at home with 22 points from Marco Belinelli, Lottomatica did not find much trouble to beat Siviglia Wear Teramo 83-67 at home while Snaidero Cucine Udine dropped to 6-9 due to a 91-88 road loss against Upea Capo d'Orlando. In other games, Angelico Biella thrashed TDShop.it Livorno 92-76.

Montepaschi Siena keeps tying for the first place at 12-3 by downing Premiata Montegranaro 90-73 at home on Sunday. Rimantas Kaukenas led 6 Montepaschi players in double digits with 23 points. Joseph Forte and Terrell McIntyre each added 13, Lonny Baxter had 11 while Marco Carrareto and Romain Sato each scored 10 points for Montepaschi, that used a 9-1 run to get a 25-14 lead after 10 minutes and never looked back. Even when Montegranaro got within 54-51 late in the third quarter, Kaukenas had 11 points in the final 8 minutes to make Siena seal a well-deserved win. Eldo Napoli showed all its power by overwhelming Armani Jeans Milano 84-58 at home on Sunday morning. Both teams are now tied at 9-6 for the third place in the standings. Jeff Trepagnier led the way for Napoli with 18 points, Matteo Malaventura added 15, Ansu Sesay 14 and Michel Morandais 10. Napoli already broke the game, 42-36, at halftime and kept rolling until the final buzzer. Benetton Treviso had to battle hard to beat Bipop Carire Reggio Emilia 63-66 and improve to 8-7 in the standings. Newcomer Erazem Lorbek paced the winners with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Terrell Lyday added 15 points, Nikos Zisis had 14 while Spencer Nelson grabbed 15 rebounds for Benetton. It all came down to the final second, in which Ben Ortner tied the game, 63-63, with 0.8 ticks to go. Zisis had time to bury a nine-meter bomb and win the game for Benetton.

Climamio Bologna keeps climbing in the league table and improved to 8-7 by thrashing Air Avellino 94-76 at home. Marco Belinelli paced the winners with 22 points, David Bluthenthal added 16, Stefano Mancinelli had 15, Tyus Edney 12 while James Thomas grabbed 12 rebounds for Climamio, which led 45-34 at halftime. Avellino did not give up and tied the game, 62-62, with 7 minutes to go. Mancinelli rescued the hosts with 9 quick points while Belinelli, Bluthenthal and Edney hit respective three-pointers in a wild final period in which Climamio had 34 points to seal the outcome. Lottomatica Roma also improved to 8-7 by downing Siviglia Wear Teramo 83-67 at home. David Hawkins led the winners with 18 points, Loukas Mavrokefalidis added 14, Ognjen Askrabic had 12 and Alex Righetti 10 for Roma, which led 47-34 at halftime and kept a solid lead until the final buzzer. Meanwhile, Snaidero Cucine Udine dropped to 6-9 due to a 91-88 road loss against Upea Capo d'Orlando. Once again Alvin Young led Orlando with 27 points. Jacob Jaacks led Udine with a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Jerome Allen added 14 points, Michelle Antonutti had 13, Kristaps Valters 12 and Silvio Gigena 10. Jaacks gave Udine its last lead, 66-69, midway through the final period. Young broke an otherwise balanced game with 6 points in the final minute.
