Lukoil Academic needed to battle harder than expected to beat Balkan 84-87 in Botevgrad on Wednesday and improve to 19-1 to keep leading the Bulgarian League standings. Todor Stoykov led the winners with 35 points on 5-of-7 three-pointers and 10-of-12 free throws. Gjorgji Cekovski added 12 while Mate Skelin and Taliek Brown each had 10 for Lukoil, that played without star guard Lamont Jones. Lukoil trailed 62-57 after three quarters but an outstanding Stoykov allowed Lukoil to seal its comeback and get another win. CSKA Sofia stays second at 18-2 by thrashing Cherno More IG 104-81 at home. Adrian Pledger paced the winners with 19 points on 8-of-9 two-pointers while Greg Danielson and Jordan Bozov each had 14 for CSKA, that signed two new players, Thierry Zig and Carlos Cherry. Last but not least, Spartak Pleven topped Levski 90-80 behind 19 points from Hrisimir Dimitrov. Sprtak had 5 players in double digits.
