Belgian League, Game 28: March 17, 2007 Dexia Mons-Hainaut showed its power in the Belgian League this weekend by beating top-of-the-table Spirou Charleroi 89-80 at home on Saturday. Mons improved to 16-12 while Charleroi dropped to 20-8. George Evans led the winners with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Kevin Houston added 16, Jim Potter had 15 and Miguel Berdiel 10 for Mons. Damir Krupalija had 18 points off the Charleroi bench. Charleroi led 28-31 midway through the second quarter, but Evans stepped up with back-to-back baskets and Potter had 10 points to make Mons get a 49-37 halftime margin. Mons managed to keep a safe lead all the way until the final buzzer. Telindus Oostende improved to 17-11 by thrashing Basket Gr Leuven 54-78 on the road also on Saturday. Rashad Wright paced the winners with 17 points. Glen McGowan added 14, Titus IVory 12 and Elvir Ovcina 11. Oostende broke the game after the break, as Ovcina and Wright combined for all points in a 0-11 run that allowed the guests to get a 36-53 lead after 30 minutes and cruise to a well-deserved win. In other games, Verviers-Pepinster thrashed Liege Basket 106-89 behind 31 points from Justin Gray, Okapi Aalstar rallied from a 21-point halftime deficit to top Atomia Brussels 79-68 while Sanex Antwerp defeated Euphony Bree 64-56 with 29 points and 13 rebounds from Len Matela.
