German League Playoffs, Quarterfinals, Game 5: May 24, 2008

Deutsche Bank Skyliners became the last team to reach the German League semifinals by edging Bayer Giants Leverkusen 58-59 in do-or-die Game 5 of the best-of-five series on Saturday. The Skyliners won the series 2-3 by taking a thriller that went down to the wire. Pascal Roller paced the winners with 16 points. Jimmy McKinney added 14 while Ilian Evtimov had 13 for the Skyliners. Ransford Brempong, Brant Bailey and Beckham Wyrick each had 14 points for Leverkusen, that played its last game in this city after 14 years in the German first division. With Bayer stepping down as the main sponsor, the team will probably move to Dusseldorf next season. It all came down to the final seconds, as Brempong made foul shots to give Leverkusen a 58-57 edge. Roller drew a foul and calmly made both free throws for a 58-59 Skyliners edge with 7 seconds to go. Tyrone McCoy had time for a potential game-winning shot, but his running jumper did not fall in. As such, the best-of-five semifinals will be Alba Berlin vs. EWE Baskets Oldenburg and Deutsche Bank Skyliners vs. Telekom Baskets Bonn.
