Alba Berlin used a huge fourth quarter charge to turn the tables and beat EWE Baskets Oldenburg 86-79 in the opening game of the teams' German League semifinals series. The visitors scored the final 5 points of the first quarter to take a 19-23 lead and then rode Jason Gardner's hot hand to an 8-point lead before Berlin came back. The scoreboard showed 44-48 at the break. Gardner and Jasmin Perkovic continued to pace Oldenburg in the third with the lead reaching 9, however Goran Nikolic and Julius Jenkins kept Berlin within striking distance at 62-69 heading into the fourth. Then Berlin took over with improved defense and points from Bobby Brown and Sascha Nadjfeji to pull away. An Immanuel McElroy bucket with 40 seconds left made it 84-77 and killed Oldenburg’s last hopes. Brown scored 20, Nadjfeji had 17 and Julius Jenkins added 14 for the winners. McElroy and Patrick Femerling posted 11 and 10 points plus 7 rebounds each for Berlin. Perkovic had 21 points and 9 rebounds and Gardner finished with 19 points for Oldenburg, which hosts Game 2 on Thursday.

The Deutsche Bank Skyliners held off Telekom Baskets Bonn's late charge for a 75-72 win in their semifinals opener. In Frankfurt, Derrick Allen's 25 points carried the hosts, who sealed the win on Pascal Roller's late free throw. After a narrow first half, which saw the hosts lead 37-34 by halftime, Bonn made a run in the third quarter only to see the hosts answer through Dominik Bahiense de Mello, who put Frankfurt ahead 63-50 early in the fourth quarter. Bonn responded by picking up the pace and that allowed it to cut into the lead and get within 3, but the Skyliners came through when they needed to in order to earn the Game 1 win. Jimmy McKinney added 12 points and Alex King 10 for Frankfurt. Winsome Frazier had 25 and Jeremiah Davis 11 for Bonn in defeat.
