Alba Berlin wrapped up its first German League championship since 2003 on Tuesday by beating Telekom Baskets Bonn 79-88 in overtime. Berlin won the best-of-five finals series 3-1 to secure a berth in the Euroleague for next season. Julius Jenkins scored 30 points – including 11 in overtime – to earn MVP honors. Bobby Brown added 24 for the winners, who captured their eighth career German championship. Bernd Kruel scored 6 during an 8-0 push that bridged the opening two periods as Bonn took a 27-17 lead. The lead reached 15 when Winsome Frazier hit a three-pointer and followed it with a layup midway through the second period. Philip Zwiener helped Berlin cut the gap to 40-33 by halftime. Brown and then Jenkins heated up to get Berlin back in the game by the end of the third quarter, setting up a dramatic fourth quarter that featured five lead changes and five ties. Jeremiah Davis tied it for Bonn at 71-71 with 12.6 seconds remaining and Berlin was unable to score in the last possession, setting up overtime. Ronnie Burrell gave Bonn the lead at the start of the extra period, however Jenkins tied from the line, then Immanuel McElroy gave Berlin the lead for good and by the time Jenkins was done, Berlin was celebrating a hard-earned championship. McElroy finished with 15 points and 7 rebounds for the winners, while Frazier led Bonn with 20, Kruel added 14 and Davis 13 in defeat.
