Italian League playoffs, Quarterfinals, Game 5: May 18, 2008

Euroleague Rising Star award winner Danilo Gallinari shined bright in leading Armani Jeans Milano to the Italian League semifinals on Sunday. Gallinari posted 27 points and 10 rebounds to lead Milano to a 61-78 road win over Premiata Montegranaro in Game 5 of the best-of-five quarterfinals. Milano will now face defending champion Montepaschi Siena in the semifinals. Lottomatica Roma meets Air Avellino in the other semifinal. Milano’s win marked the third straight game in the series in which the road team won. Milano used a pair of 0-8 runs in the second period to build a 16-point lead. Back-to-back three-pointers by Jobey Thomas and Ricky Minard allowed Montegranaro to stay within 36-46 at halftime. Thomas and Minard combined for the first 5 points of the second half and Montegranaro then got within 4, but eventually Milano responded with another 0-8 run to push the lead back to double digits. A 2-11 charge early in the fourth quarter put the game away and allowed Milano to celebrate a semifinal berth. Dusan Vukcevic added 12 points and Travis Watson 11 for the winners. Sharrod Ford posted 13 points and 12 rebounds to pace Montegranaro in defeat. Thomas also scored 13 and Minard had 12 in defeat.
