Lietuvos Rytas took the big showdown in the Baltic League this weekend by downing archrivals Zalgiris 91-79 in Vilnius on Saturday. L. Rytas keeps leading the standings at 16-1 and is about to clinch first place while Zalgiris dropped to 15-3. Martynas Gecevicius and Chuck Eidson paced the winners each with 19 points. Kenan Bajramovic added 13, Arturas Jomantas had 11 while Andrius Slezas got 10 for L. Rytas. Jonas Maciulis had 14 points for Zalgiris, Damir Markota added 12 and Marcus Brown 11 for the guests. Three-pointer by Maciulis and Brown allowed Zalgiris to get a 39-42 margin at halftime. An 11-0 run that Eidson capped with a dunk put L. Rytas ahead for good, 55-49. Zalgiris got as close as 79-76 with 3 minutes remaining but Slezas and a four-point play by Price sealed the outcome. ASK Riga stayed third at 13-5 by edging Ventspils 61-59 at home on Sunday. Curtis Millage and Smiljan Pavic paced the winners each with 10 points. Raimonds Gabrans had 15 points for Ventspils while Akin Akingbala posted a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds for the guests. It all came down to the final 16 seconds, as Sandis Buskevics made a free throw for a 61-59 ASK edge. Akselis Vairogs missed from downtown at the buzzer. Ventspils had previously beaten BC Kalev/Cramo 74-69 behind 27 points from Gabrans. Vairogs added 16, Aigars Vitols had 15 while Akingbala got 10 for Ventspils. Travis Reed and Dusan Jelic each had 14 points for Kalev, Kristjan Kangur added 13 and Mateo Kedzo 11. Free throws by Gabrans sealed the outcome with 9 seconds remaining.
