Austrian League playoffs, semifinals, Game 1: May 10, 2009
There were no surprises at the outset of the Austrian League semifinals as regular season champ Allianz Swans Gmunden and reigning champion BSC Raiffeisen Furstenfeld Panthers both opened with wins. The Swans smashed the Traiskirchen Lions 101-74, outscoring the opponent by 7, 11 and 9 points in the first three quarters to start the best of five semifinals with a 1-0 edge. Deteri Mayed led five Gmunden scorers in double figures with 23 points, Shelton Colwell added 19 points and 10 rebounds, helping the Swans outrebound the Lions 30-18. Matthias Mayer scored 17 and Anthony Fisher recorded 15 points and 5 assists. Deven Mitchell paced Traiskirchen with 17 points. Meanwhile the Panthers bested WBC Kraftwerk Wels 84-76 behind 24 points from Bryan Lucas and 21 from Desmond Penigar. Austen Rowland orchestrated the Panthers’ attack with 10 assists. Brandon Thomas paced Wels with 19 points.
