Spirou lifted its fifth Belgian Cup title - its first since 2003 - by downing Belgacom Liege Basket 51-63 in the title game in Louvain on Saturday. Matt Walsh led the winners with 15 points,m earning MVP honors. Jerry Johnson added 14 points while Andre Riddick pulled down 10 rebounds for Spirou. Jerald Fields led Liege with 16 points. Justin Cage added 12, Larry Owens had 11 while Will Thomas pulled down 14 boards for Belgacom, that led 5-4 in the early going. A 0-7 run allowed Spirou to get a 5-11 margin at the end of a defensive first quarter. Spirou soon boosted its margin to 10-25 and stayed ahead until the final buzzer. Liege managed to get 18-27 at halftime and make it a five-point game, 25-30, immediately after the break. Johnson stepped up for Spirou and got some help from Walsh and Jonathan Tabu to seal the outcome, 33-44, early in the fourth quarter. Liege made 15 of 58 shots, allowing Spirou to celebrate a fifth cup title long before the final buzzer!
