The semifinals in the Belgian League playoffs are all tied up and headed to do-or-die third games after lower-seeded Antwerp Diamond Giants and Gererali Okabi Aalstar won home games on Thursday. Antwerp escaped a sweep attempt by defending champion Spirou Basket to win a serious defensive battle 61-54 behind 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals from Brandon Gay. Antwerp had seeming built an impenetrable 55-40 lead going into the final quarter, but that's when Spirou's defense took over. The visitors outscored Antwerp 6-14 to get within striking distance before time ran out on their rally. Timothy Black added 12 points and Brian Lynch 11 for the winners, while Matt Walsh was the only Spirou player to break into double figures, with 14 points. Meanwhile, at home in Aalst, Generali Opaki broke open a close game after halftime to drill Dexia Mons-Hainaut 80-63 as Matt Lojesti led the charge with 24 points. The hosts were clinging to a 39-37 halftime lead before blasting off for a 23-8 third quarter that settled the matter. Stephane Pelle, Mo Charlo and Trevor Huffman contributed 11 points each for the winners, while Caleb Green led Mons-Hainaut with 19 points. Both semifinals will be decided Saturday on the courts of the Game 2 losers.
