Belgian League finals, Game 2: June 4, 2009

 Spirou Charleroi moved within one victory of repeating as Belgian League champion and winning its eighth national title as it downed host Dexia Mons-Hainaut with a 72-82 road win in Game 2 of the finals on Thursday. Spirou now leads the best-of-five series 2-0 and can lift the trophy again with a victory at home on Saturday. Spirou broke open a tied game with a soaring fourth quarter fueld by great three-point shooting to win going away. Matt Walsh paced the winners with 21 points, including 3 of Spirou's 12 three-pointers, and 4 assists. Justin Hamilton hit 4 of those on his way to 14 points, the same total as Jerry Johnson, who dishes 7 of the winners' 20 assists. Andre Riddick had 10 points for Spriou. The big gun for Mons-Hainaut was Caleb Green, with 23 points in 25 minutes, while Marcellus Sommerville was the team's only other double-digit scorer, with 10 points, and Ben Ebong grabbed 11 rebounds. The hosts from Mons-Hainaut bolted in front early by 15-5 but Spirou followed Hamilton and Len Matela to close the gap to 22-19 after a quarter. By halftime, after having fallen back by as much as 39-31 again, Spirou had completely closed the gap for a 40-40 tie on Walsh's buzzer-beating triple. The lead went back and forth in the third quarter, a tug of war that ended 57-57. It was still close until 61-64, but that's when Walsh led his team on a 4-13 blast that settled the matter and put Spirou on the doorstep of another domestic title!
