A1 LIGA - Croatia
Croatian League Finals, Game 4: June 5, 2009
Cibona is once again the Croatian League champion! Cibona won its 15th Croatian League title since the competition was created in the 1991-92 season - every edition but 2003, 2005 and 2008 - by dethroning Zadar in the best-of-five title series. Cibona edged Zadar 69-71 on the road in Game 4 to win the series 3-1. Niksa Prkacin became the game hero with the game-winning layup at the buzzer. Alan Anderson led the winners with 27 points on 5-for-7 three-pointers. Davor Kus added 16 while Luksa Andric had 10 for Cibona. Todor Gecevski led Zadar with 13 points. Vladimer Boisa and Rok Stipcevic each added 11 while Hrvoje Peric had 10 for the hosts, that led 39-25 at halftime. Cibona recovered in the third quarter and got the lead, 67-69, on free throws by Anderson. Stipcevic tied the game with foul shots and it all came down to the game's final possession. Andric missed around the basket but Prkacin scored at the buzzer to win it for Cibona. MORE |

| The Croatian League is back with the same format it had in the last few years. A first round-robin regular season will be played and four teams will join Cibona, Zadar, Zagreb and Split in a second phase, once they are back from their Adriatic League duties. Semifinals and finals will set the pace for the Croatian League champion. Reigning champion Zadar is set to keep its status and defend its title with players like Dejan Ivanov and Todor Gecevski, as well as experienced head coach Aleksandar Petrovic. Cibona brought back Davor Kus, Niksa Prkacin, Damir Markota and Branimir Longin, as well as adding Robert Troha and Earl Calloway. The team will look for its 14th title since 1992. Split CO will be ready for fight for its first Croatian League title since 2003 with Sinisa Stemberger, Eddie Shannon and Antonio Grant. Zagreb completes the list of candidates to win the title with Ante Tomic, Jakov Vladovic, Andrej Stimac and Dzenan Rahimic. |
