French League, Regular Season, Game 25: April 10-11, 2009
JR Reynolds - Asvel BasketAsvel Basket took the big showdown in the French League this weekend by beating Orleans 71-59 at home on Friday. Asvel leads the standings with a 19-6 record while Orleans is second at 17-8. Ali Traore led the winners with 17 points on 7-for-8 two-pointers. J.R. Reynolds added 13 while Laurent Foirest had 12 for Asvel. Brian Greene had 14 points for Orleans, that led 32-33 at halftime. A 17-1 run that Ben Dewar capped with a triple broke the game open, 49-34, as Orleans never recovered. Le Mans moved up to 16-9 by overwhelming Pau-Orthez 96-57 at home on Saturday. Dee Spencer led 6 Le Mans players in double digits with 19 points. Alain Koffi and Bobby Dixon each added 15 while JP Batista, Antoine Diot and David Bluthenthal had 10 apiece for Le Mans, that led 49-26 at halftime and did not find much trouble to add an easy win. Chorale Roanne also ties for third place at 16-9 by thrashing Chalon 88-68 at home on Saturday. Chris Monroe led the winners with 16 points. Uche Nsonwu added 15, Aaron Harper had 14 while Curtis Sumpter got 10 for Roanne. Nsonwu and Harper helped Roanne to get a 44-22 halftime margin and the hosts kept a safe lead all the way until the final buzzer. Sluc Nancy also improved to 16-9 by topping Strasbourg 83-70 at home also on Saturday. Ricardo Greer led the winners with 23 points. Serge Tchicamboud added 16, Akin Akingbala posted a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds while Jeff Greer had 13 points for Nancy. The Greer brothers and Tchicamboud fueled a 9-0 opening run in the fourth quarter that put Nancy ahead for good, 72-63. In other games, Gravelines thrashed Rouen 85-66, Hyeres-Toulon defeated Cholet 88-75 while Dijon edged Besancon 89-97.
