French League, Regular Season, Game 29: May 8-9, 2009
Ricardo Greer - SLUC NancyAsvel Basket leads the French League regular season with a 21-8 record and has the chance to clinch first place in the last game in this phase against Sluc Nancy on Wednesday. Nancy and Orleans tie for second place at 20-9. Nancy took the big showdown in this round by edging Orleans 69-66 at home on Friday. Ricardo Greer led the winners with 15 points. Lamayn Wilson added 14, Steed Tchicamboud had 13 while Akin Akingbala grabbed 15 rebounds and added 5 blocks for Nancy. Brian Greene had 18 points for Orleans, that led 44-52 after 30 minutes. A 10-0 run that Jeff Greer capped with a three-pointer put Nancy ahead for good, 67-62, as Orleans did not recover in time. Le Mans anc Chorale Roanne tie for fourth place at 19-10. Le Mans thrashed Gravelines 75-91 on the road on Saturday behind 19 points from Alain Koffi. Dee Spencer and Bobby Dixon each added 17, David Bluthenthal had 11 while Maleye Ndoye got 10 for Le Mans. Dixon added 10 assists for a double-double. Le Mans led 28-42 at halftime and kept full control of the game until the final buzzer. Roanne downed Dijon 106-90 at home. Aaron Harper led the way for Chorale with 26 points, Chris Monroe added 20, Samba Dia and Karim Souchu each had 13 while Curtis Sumpter got 10 and 12 rebounds for the winners, that led 86-56 after 30 minutes and never looked back. Le Havre went down to 9-20 due to a 76-78 home loss against Cholet. Nando De Colo led the winners with 22 points. T.J. Thompson led Le Havre with 20 points, Marcus Slaughter added 18 while Fabien Causeur had 14 for the hosts. In other games, Chalon edged Strasbourg 81-83, Rouen downed Vichy 71-57 while Hyeres-Toulon edged Pau-Orthez 94-95 on a game-winning layup by Austin Nichols.
